This was informative, if a bit repetitive and narrowly focused. I liked that most of this little book was framed as a conversation, allowing for multiple perspectives and encouraging the reader to form their own thoughts about what a long term solution and support for Palestinians could look like. If you’re looking for a history lesson or really in depth analysis, this is not the book, but if you’re looking for fairly approachable reflections on why Israel refuses to come to the table and why violence continues (mostly focused on events around 2014), this might be a good, short one to read.

The first half of the book consists of dialogues, which are very accessible. Each chapter clearly illuminates chronologically the facts of the history and genocide of the Palestinian people by Israel. FROM THE RIVER TO THE SEA, in our lifetime!!

“You have to ask what the consequences are going to be for the victims. That should be the highest priority all the time. Tactical decisions are important. They are not trivial. Human lives depend on them.”

Quite a broad overview with several repetitions in-between Pappe’s and Chomsky’s essays. Definitely not a book to get started on the topic of Israel’s settler colonialism and aggression, as it requires some background knowledge.

This collection of essays and recorded conversations is incredibly interesting and thought provoking.

I found the writing engaging and very easy to follow. I did find myself having to search for further information elsewhere to fully understand what was being talked/written about.

The first half of the book was probably the best with a great introduction by Ilan, and the recorded conversations (which were my favourite part of the book).

The second half felt a bit tacked on with essays which repeated topics already explored several times.

Overall a good and engaging book.

Great exchange between Chomsky and Pappé, both of whom are very knowledgeable but each from their own unique perspective. I only wish the conversation would have included a Palestinian scholar to round it out more.

The essays at the back mirror bits of the previous conversation. This might feel repetitive to some, but I think the essays add to the transcript.

It definitely helps to have at least a foundational understanding before diving into this book. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it as a primer for anyone who is new to the topic. Although, if you started with the essays before reading the transcript, that might work.

This provides very helpful context on the reality of Palestine under Israeli occupation. It was an accessible read for me on a very important topic & I highly recommend it if you need to be further disillusioned of the propaganda that we have been force-fed in Western media and history books.
