A fabulous, readable, accessible book on feminism. If you consider yourself a fully fledged feminist, a not good enough feminist or are wondering if you even are, pick up this book, regardless of your gender. Reading this book is like listening to a group of your girlfriends talk to you about their experiences. So well put together.

Like many other reviewers have said, this wasn’t groundbreaking. Some of the essays and poems were great, but ultimately this one did not live up to the hype (famous contributors and quoted reviews).

There are very few books in which I would read again or would come away from feeling empowered, but this happens to be both.

Feminism can be a touchy subject for a lot of people and families but after reading this book I feel like I should be joining in on the conversation. We all should.

Some topics are lighthearted and funny, others are quite heavy and sensitive to read. But both need to be told. I couldn’t recommend this book enough and encourage everyone to read it.

Not extremist feminism, and mostly not anti-men (but rather anti-"toxic masculinity"), which I was concerned it might be when my grandparents gave it to me. It has some really important messages about standing up for your rights, encouraging the next generation to treat each other as equals, and accepting yourself for who you are no matter what society says. The range of authors and the particular aspects of feminism they chose to write about, often drawing from their own embarrassing or painful experiences, was rather brilliant. I think everyone can find someone there they can relate to and be inspired by. I do feel that it would have been good to include some male feminists, though, since while I'm sure it's mostly women who'll read this, I'm also sure that the all-female lineup could prove alienating or discouraging to a man. It's just as important for men to hear these strong, brave women tell their tales, though, as it might make them think before saying a sexist remark or taking something that's not being offered to them. I'm lucky enough to have mostly been spared from sexism, thanks to my female warrior foremothers, but reading this book has reminded me how important it is to make sure everyone is treated equally, everywhere, and we should honour the battles, small or large, fought by all the men and women before us in the war for equality. Read this book and maybe you'll feel even more understanding, empathy and empowerment than it gave me.
