This is different from what I normally read. I loved the perspective on female writers and in particular the idea of what makes up a persons 'sex' as is the language used in the piece.

Much of what Woolf has to say is considered the dawn of the feminist movement. Having not read much classical feminist literature, I can say that this book was enlightening, validating, and unfortunately almost entirely relevant even after nearly 100 years from its original date of publish. While feminism itself has made vast progress since the first wave of which Woolf was a pioneer, I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in understanding the feminist movement, or even in human nature as it relates to sex.

Short and punchy, but still introspective and a bit dreamy. WOW there's a lot I don't know about early English feminism.
Much about this essay still rings a societal bell, and much to my chagrin. I fell victim to Woolf's own pitfall when confronted with women's history, consuming and righteous anger. But I agree with her, fury doesn't solve much for either sex. Lots to think about.

Very interesting essay, complexe and not too long therefore it is a good read.
