Reed was an insufferable, emotionally-stunted manchild who constantly demanded sex from Julie. He refused to compromise or grow or be emotionally available, but he wanted her body, her loyalty, and he refused to take no for an answer. He pulled asshole move after asshole move, and thus, when he did the bare minimum, Julie was elated. IT IS BASIC CONDITIONING. She was constantly treated like trash and had her feelings generally disregarded, that when he showed the most minimal attempts to communicate, she would melt like butter and give in. JULIE DO YOU NOT REMEMBER BEING TREATED LIKE A ROTTEN PILE OF TRASH??? HOW did you forget??? He said AWFUL things to her, his idea of an apology is a card game, and he literally stole all her stuff and put it in his house, just expecting her to move in. Like ??!?
He was an emotionally stunted manchild who didn’t know what to do with his feelings so he lashed out. He didn’t even explain to her that he liked her, gave no declarations of love, straight up told her he wanted her and that she was his. THIS IS THE 21ST CENTURY. WOMEN ARE NOT PROPERTY. And this wasn’t just his dominant attitude in bed, this was Reed all. the. time. Sure alpha types can be sexy, but he did ZERO things to make himself emotionally available for her. He just couldn’t stand the thought of not owning her.
This is 2019. We work on ourselves if we want to be in healthy relationships. Reed did not work on himself, and dictated their entire relationship because he has an insufferable need to be in total control. This wasn’t good characterisation, he didn’t HAVE a character arc, he was just an asshole who remained an asshole through the entirety of the book.
JULIE

I loved this book! Loved the characters, I thought they were well crafted and suited each other to a T. Tessa Bailey did an amazing job with this book, Reed is definitely giving Derek some tough competition for my affections since they're now both tied as my fave Tessa Bailey heroes thus far. I loved that Reed was like a bear with a sore paw, a beast to Julie's beauty. I loved that Julie also had beast like qualities. To sum up I just loved this book, I think it was well crafted and is one of this author's best, if you haven't tried her work as yet I think it's a great place to start and if you're already a fan a you'll definitely love this one.

BAITING THE MAID OF HONOR is one of five books in the Wedding Dare series. In this series there are five couples and five different authors who write a story about each couple. BAITING THE MAID OF HONOR is Julie Piper and Reed Lawson’s story. Julie’s best friend from college is getting married and Julie is the maid of honor. It’s a destination wedding so the entire wedding party is staying at an exclusive resort in Colorado the week before the wedding. Julie agrees to do all of the planning for the events leading up to the wedding, because that’s what she does, she takes care of everyone. Reed is in the wedding party and from the moment Julie meets him she is drawn to him, although he isn’t the type of men she is usually interested in. He’s a tough alpha male, who is rough around the edges and works as a swat team commander. Reed grew up poor and likes low maintenance women, so he’s surprised when he finds himself drawn to Julie. Julie is a typical southern bell and she both intrigues and frustrates Reed. Julie was raised in luxury and has never met anyone like Reed, yet she feels comfortable with him. From the moment they meet, Reed and Julie have a strong sexual attraction and can’t keep their hands off of each other. I liked Reed and Julie. Even though they come from different backgrounds, they are both down to earth people. They are each dealing with some issues from their past and aren’t looking for a relationship.

I’m a huge Tessa Bailey fan. I always love everything she writes and I found this to be another delightful, sexy story. She knows how to write an interesting story with great dialogue. The characters are believable and Julie and Reed have scorching chemistry together. The wedding party is thrown together when their friends get married and as they all get to know each other, there are sparks flying between all of them. I love the sexual tension, all the banter between the characters and can’t wait to read the rest of this series and find out what happens with the rest of the wedding party.

I've come to expect something when I read a book by Tessa Bailey. Thank God she NEVER disappoints! Once again, I've got a new book boyfriend. I have no idea how she writes these guys, but WOW! I love them! Reed is a seriously HOT dirty talker, but with a caring soul at his core (despite his insistence that he doesnt' do romance)! When I wasn't laughing, or blushing, I was crying over things like playing go fish in the rain. Such an amazing story of discovery for this couple! I'm completely satisfied...for now. I can't wait for her next book!
Favorite lines: "That day when they'd played go fish in the rain, he'd told her he wanted to find out who they were together. He had his answer. They were permanent. Inescapable. They...shone."

I couldn’t connect with the characters but I also had that problem with the novella and the first book by other authors in this series so while I’m still interested in reading more from these authors but I won’t be continuing this series because Im just not interested in any of the characters in the series for some reason.

Tessa Bailey and her dangerously sexy stories strikes again. Baiting The Maid Of Honor, hooks you right away, is filled with so much sexiness it explodes in the pages, and there is nothing to be bored with in this fast-paced novella!

Living through what Julie has and having a family who expects so much of her, I'm not sure I would quite be able to keep my cool and I commend her for it, but also scold. I say that because no one should ever try to be anyone other than who they want to be and it made me so happy to see Reed come in and break down all her walls.

Firstly, the name Reed is just so...UNF. Yes, there is no other word because I adore that sexy name. With Reed, I loved watching his controlling, keep-everyone-away attitude get broken down by Julie. It's funny because you know these big bad boys are capable of affection but you wonder why they never show it and I just love watching big bad boys get taken down by love.

With this story though I kept finding myself looking for something a little more. I'm not sure if it was background stories, or a little less sexiness, or what it was. Overall though, I absolutely adore everything Tessa writes and this one is no exception! Sexy and satisfying!
