This novel sounded promising: an art historian who can enter the world in which the artwork was created, sometimes taking others with her. However the world created did not live up to the hype. It was tough getting into this book, and keeping reading it. The characters were too flat and predictable for me, and none of the characters were likeable to help keep me interested. This was not a book suited towards my tastes as a fantasy, magical realism and historical fiction reader, but would likely better appeal to those who enjoy thrillers.

Thank you Sourcebooks Landmark and NetGalley for the eARC of The Estate.  All opinions in this review are my own.

I wanted to love this one because of its historic chateau setting and the ability of the main character to go into the artwork, but unfortunately it wasn't for me.  It is such a shame because I loved Five First Chances by the same author.  I never felt fully invested in this one.

This sounded like an interesting premise, but it is just super slow and not intriguing enough for me to continue. Haven’t connected with any of the characters, and the plot is also somewhat confusing actually. Bummer because I was really drawn in, especially by the cover!

Thanks to Sourcebooks Landmark and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

THE ESTATE by Sarah Jost held a lot of intrigue for me - our main character can go into art and she also ends up in the throes of a mysterious, aristocratic family that she has prior history with - color me curious đź‘€

However, I felt the story to be missing quite a bit of tension and the plot ultimately didn’t seem to go anywhere. As much as I love a slow burn, this one was a slog to get through and I didn’t find the magical realism strong enough to carry the whole story.

I enjoyed this, but it was a bit slow for a while. I don't know how to describe how I felt reading this. Most of the time, I was uncomfortable, but I think you're supposed to feel that way. As the reader, for me anyway, the way Camille is feeling is distorted? Idk if that's the right word. It feels wrong like Camille feels when learning about the art. The whole time you're questioning what's truth, what's deception, and where is the damn real Night Swimming.

I will say I was so proud at the end of the book. I think if this book came with an accompanied song, it should be Labour by Paris Paloma.
