Without TikTok, all I had in my very early twenties has Hardy & Easton to rely on for info on how to navigate polyamory and queer relationships. For me, it was the 90s and early 2000s and there wasn't much else out there. The online world was only just starting to open up in this regard. I met my first partner online when it wasn't ok to tell people you were meeting online (it was still weird) and he was still very much hard-wired into monogamy. He tried to accommodate my thinking, but it was just too difficult for him to adjust. I appreciate The Ethical Slut for providing a guidepost for future partners to at least open up the conversation and we could start from zero, without existing expectations.

Had to return to the library and was unable to renew this particular book, unfortunately. It was very informative and interesting though!

Great example of learning about myself by learning what I’m not. A lot of great stuff for general relationship building, maintenance, and communicating. My favorite theme is the holistic focus on pleasure regarding sex.

As a regular Savage Lovecast reader, there weren’t a lot of new things in this book, just a hippy female perspective. Writing style wasn’t my favorite and some of the advice/suggestions are posed as facts which is tricky on a topic like this one.

It’s fairly inspiring. But it sometimes relies too heavily on anecdotes and the last two chapters are both sexy because they are about sex and … way too long. I dreaded picking it up to finish it.

I feel this book offers a lot of great advice and knowledge for people unfamiliar with polyamory or people just starting to open up to polyam dynamics. Also great for advice on having open communication, which anyone can benefit from, not just polyam individuals. However, I do feel this book is slightly outdated and could use a 3rd edition. And while I am pagan myself, I felt like it focused a little too much on spirituality vs polyam dynamics at times. Over all I would recommend this too someone who is curious about polyam, whether for educations sake or wanting to step into polyamory themselves.
