This book was like if Mean Girls, Clue, and Carrie had a baby… suspenseful but predictable if you follow along.

This book was fun!!

Let me start out with the negatives - I pretty much hated every character. I also predicted everyone's secrets (except for one) and I predicted one of the big twists very early on. I personally felt like some little hints sprinkled in gave away too much, but maybe I just read too many thrillers!!

Even though I called a lot of what happened, reading this was so much messy fun. Hating the characters made me feel like I needed some popcorn to see what was going to go down next. I didn't care who died (does that sound horrible?? lol). The things I predicted left me wanting more, and then I did get more with something I didn't see coming.

Even though nothing shocked me or blew me away, 3 stars feels too low for how much fun I had reading this. I'd probably give it 3.5 if I could, but I'm rounding up to 4 for now because it was entertaining and I kept wanting to pick it back up.

MAJOR spoilers below. Please don't read further if you're interested in reading this book and haven't yet!!

Spoiler
I'm a little confused by some of the italicized parts (I think they were always at the end of Esther's chapters but I could be wrong). Like at the end of Chapter 18 it says "hide her, and hide the knife" referring to Poppy's body, and whoever it is claims they killed her. After going forward it seems like these portions might be Wendy's thoughts, but even after finding Poppy's body in the past, the thoughts don't seem fitting. I think these should have been separate chapters with no assigned name.

Too mean too many girls

Fun read. Good debut. My only critique is that I struggled to differentiate the multiple narrators in their chapters. The tone was so similar between them that I had to keep switching back to the beginning of the chapters to remember who was talking. Story was exciting and drew me in.
