Maybe I should have guessed where this was going, but I didn't. And that's kind of the point of the story, yeah? The path you think you are on and the one you end up travelling aren't always the same.

Book 2!

This story is well written, captivating, and thrilling in parts. The characters are memorable, nerve wracking in areas and truly diverse. The banter is engaging and adds to the plots.

Book 2 truly adds to the beautiful world building and character development of book1 while also truly bringing the reader into understanding the multi faceted dimensions the author has created.

It’s a jaw clenching tale of finding oneself, the importance of known heritage and passing down of history. The fight for autonomy and choosing one’s own destiny in the face of conflicting with a chosen path created before you even existed.

Binti comes home and finds out how different she really is, oh and by the way, her alien friend may be the cause of her (oppressive as required) family is wiped out, but we don’t know because the book is SO SHORT! So someone has to shell out $15 for the next chapter.

I liked the first one more but this one was still good. That cliffhanger at the end definitely makes me want to read the third book

A tour de force

What is home? Can it ever be the same as when you left it? Can it ever have the same feeling that wound through you before?

That's the feeling I get when I read this one. It's at once an exploration of what home means and what it actually is while also looking at the way the world changes us. Whether that's for good or for ill, I'm not sure, but it is an interesting prospect all the same.

I especially loved the way Okorafor blends science with history and the idea of the collective. There's something grounding about the little homes that Binti creates within herself and the circles she forms with others, even as what she thinks of as home fractures within her grasp.
