Binti has begun her studies, but the slaughter on the Third Fish haunts her. She thinks that perhaps visiting home will bring her mind and soul some rest, and she embarks upon a quest for answers about her heritage and her unique gifts.
A little less engaging than the first book -- it felt like we were contending with Binti's sense of self while simultaneously having her identity explained. That said, still looking forward to the next book.
An engaging, thought-provoking story that balances emotion, plot, and worldbuilding masterfully, as well as a brilliant exploration of third-culture-ness--this goes on my must-read list for TCKs. The lack of background information to go along with the intensity of new technology and politics is sometimes frustrating, but also catches the reader in some of the encounter with new cultures that Binti experiences throughout the series. Overall I would highly recommend the series.
Interesting place to take the series! I love how Okorafor uses science fiction to explore what it's like for a young woman to leave her natal homeland in order to seek out herself (and her education), and what it costs to return to one's home. I was able to see the struggles faced by many young women in Africa to this day, with the stigmas surrounding the simple acts of leaving and acquiring an education. Such a small glimpse into another's real life struggle through a fun lens is what sci fi all about, and Okorafor excels masterfully!
I shall soon be tackling the final bit of Binti in a week or so

Solid 4 stars until the final section of the novella, which felt rushed and jarring. Hopefully a more satisfying conclusion ahead.
This was even better than the first book in the series. In Binti, I felt like it wasn’t long enough to really xplore the world and the story fully, but this one was great. It’s a wonderful look at the world of a girl who leaves home and can’t go back again. Despite all the sci-fi trappings, I suspect anyone who has left home and found themselves changed by the experiences can relate to Binti’s experiences in this book. It was really excellent.
Refreshing continuation of this fantasy series.
Book one in the Binti trilogy starts with Binti running away from home. Book 2 is her reckoning with family as she returns home. And holy cliffhanger ending! I'm really enjoying this trilogy as an audiobook read by narrator Robin Miles.
Helt fantastisk bok. Får mig att undra varför andra böcker är så långa? Onödiga detaljer? Dramaturgiska anledningar? Upprepning av centrala motiv? Binti har allt även fast den är kort
