Utterly charming. I loved Grace and Jack’s connection from the beginning. This was really sweet with just enough drama to make it interesting.

3.5/5 stars

Jack Audley is a highwayman who robs the coach of the dowager Duchess of Wyndham and her companion, Grace Eversleigh. The dowager Duchess immediately recognizes him and proclaims that he is the son of her middle son who died 29 years ago. This revelation means that Thomas, the duchess' other grandson, is not next in line to inherit the dukedom. Jack does not want to be the duke. He just wants to marry Grace, the woman he loves. However, Grace knows that he cannot marry her if he will be the next duke. The characters travel to Ireland in order to search for the marriage license of Jack's parents in order to prove that he is legitimate. I liked the characters and the world that Julia Quinn created in this book. However, I did not like how slowly events in the book seemed to progress. It took forever for Jack and Grace to be happy together, and I thought that the book ended too soon.

In this book we follow companion to the dowager, Grace, and highwayman Jack as they meet in an unfortunate robbery encounter where the dowager all but screams at him that she knows him and that he is related to her long dead (29 years dead) son and we follow them as Jack turns up at the castle the next day and our unlikely group go on a revelation of preparing and seeing if Jack is the legitimate heir to become the Duke. As all this is happening, we see the intense chemistry and humour and tension passed between Grace and Jack which is too thick to ignore. Before long they embark on a trip to Ireland to see the registry of his parent’s marriage and, although Jack tries to burn the record and keep Thomas as the duke, the title is passed on to Jack and he, reluctantly at first, comes to claiming the title for his own, marrying Grace (despite everyone telling him not to) and making a good life for the two of them as they truly do deserve it.

I have had mixed opinions on Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series (I liked half and was not so fond of half) but I loved this book from the very first page and I just could not put it down. Grace and Jack’s chemistry was electric and the storyline was so intriguing to me and I loved every single page in this book (and, being me, I also did cry a little) and this is honestly one of my favourite books of Julia Quinn’s that I have read so far. Jack and Grace are just so adorable and humorous both together and separately and I can say that they now own my heart and I am obsessed. Also the protectiveness that Jack has from the very beginning to make sure that Grace is treated as a human and with respect was so amazing and had me immediately simping for the man.

I felt like it was too insta love but I really enjoyed the banter

Quinn generally strikes a nice balance between a character who must kowtow to a bully to keep her job (without which, life would be extremely difficult), and who also has a spine.

Minus .5 star for the final chapter in which the hero & heroine are raising a manipulative bully and why would they protect their daughter from him when kids will sort themselves out (which is why there aren't any bullies by high school), and isn't that just adorable. 3.5 stars.

Audiobook narrator Kate Reading more than does the story justice.

Ive read a lot of Julia Quinn and really enjoy her writing style. I like that I know that I will get really fast paced dialogue and witty characters.

This book felt a bit 'meh' for me even though there were a lot of typical Julia Quinn elements. Jack and Grace were both likable characters but they were just a little flat for me.

It was enjoyable enough for my holiday read but it wasnt one of her best.
