Silly and forgettable, as is to be expected.

I severely disliked the "hero" and could not see anything appealing or likable in him. So, once again, the whole story is hinged on his supposedly irresistible sex appeal. Icky and boring.

The incongruity of it was that the heroine was in all other aspects a smart and sensible woman - capable of recognizing and appreciating true character, friendship and candor. But, apparently, the author is one of the lamentable persuasion that all women, however smart or logical, are nevertheless mindless animals enslaved by their hormones and unsuppressable sexual urges.
I finished the whole book eager for the heroine to come out of the whole debacle realistically unscathed, which, of course, given the genre, was a native and unrealistic expectation. There was a moment at which I rejoiced - she is given a way out about 4/5 of the book in, with enough to live on and a house of her own, and I dearly wished that it would have been the end to the book, as it was by far her best option under the circumstances.

But, of course, this being a "romance" we had to see the heroine "happily" shackled to the selfish prick of a duke and producing his equally selfindulging brood, as the epilogue made abundantly clear. What a sad fate!

This is the end of the line for my tolerance towards this author.

It is a cute romance, I think there wasn't as much tension as I typically like in a book, but Jack was very swoony and it was a cozy read.

I have ZERO tolerance for toxic masculinity in my books, and so it was a pleasant surprise to see how kind and loving Jack is to Grace (especially considering what I've heard about the bridgerton books).

The spice is steamy, but not excessive. The banter is legitimately funny. A great book!
