Maybe its because I listened to the audio book...but this one was ok.....Not quite sure what exactly... But i felt like it was missing something.... Maybe my experience would have been different if I read it instead? I dont know... I did enjoyed the characters. They were all so unbelievably.. nice?. except the grandmother.

**NOTE: This review is written using my old process. Which is just me chatting about the book. All new reviews starting in 2022 will be written with my easy to read, easy to understand, review layout!

*You can check out my review for book 2 as well. The beginning and end of each review for this duology will be the same.

This was my second time reading the Two Dukes of Wyndham. I joined Toni & Wendy from Lit Wallflowers Podcast and it was so much fun visiting these characters again!

This 2-book series, or duology, was written simultaneously. There is actually no correct order to read them in, although The Lost Duke of Wyndham released first. Both novels take place at the exact same time with 4 separate points of view. Two amazing heroes and two wonderful heroines.

The first time I read them, I read them in order back-to-back. Both books were great (as are all of Julia's books.) But I found that I wasn't quite as enthralled while reading the second book. I recalled feeling like I had already read most of what I was reading, from the first book.

Since some time had passed, my memory of them was foggy. The only things I could recall from the first time I read them was:

•One man was a highwayman, the other man was a duke. The highwayman (SPOILER ALERT) was the actual duke, and the duke wasn't.

•Both men were good men.

•The first book was very funny.

That was really the only basic details I could remember. So the actual storyline, dialogues, and the journey they go on through the books were completely blank in my mind. I had no memory of the actual details of either book.
So I went into this reread with an almost blank canvas. It was all new to me again.

But this time around I read the second book first. And I was so happy and surprised to find I adored the second book, more than the first book! I expected to feel the same as I did the first time I read them, but I didn't! I still enjoyed the first book just as much as I did the first time I read it. But I found that the second book held more emotion for me and touched my heart so much more than I thought it would. (I'll discuss more about the second book in my review for Mr. Cavendish, I Presume.)

I of course have to mention the dowager duchess. Who is the grandmother of Thomas and Jack. There are some hidden redeeming qualities to the dowager but they are hidden very deep and sometimes don't quite fully make up for the hatefulness and emotional cruelty she enflicts. But this helps show how she is not just one-dimensional but that there is more to her than just evil. That she is human. Julia did an amazing job writing her character!

In The Lost Duke of Wyndham we have our hero of many professions, currently Highwayman, Mr. "Jack" John Rollo Cavendish-Audley. This character was so funny. And when I say funny, I mean

Fofo

The same formula as usual, as follows:

1. Extraordinary meeting
2. Stolen kisses
3. She loves him.
4. They have sex.
5. An obstacle
6. He loves her.
7. Epilogue, with lots of babies

Julia Quinn is one of the more entertaining romance writers, but I am a little weary of the predictability of her plots.

First off, does anyone think Jack on the cover looks like Prince Humperdink? Anyone? No? Just me? Okay then, moving on.

This was a cute story. I didn't quite get Thomas, but hopefully he'll come across as more understandable in the next one. The grandmother was delightfully bitchy and enjoyable to read about. I'll probably read the next one pretty soon.

Amusing and light. Not sure I liked as much as the other one, even if she did work in "truthiness."

This was an enjoyable read. I liked the characters and the story. It is found out that a highwayman who is robbing a Dowager duchess and her companion is the long lost heir to the dukedom. This lost duke falls for the companion while his legitimacy is verified. But can a duke and companion have a happy ending? And more than just the lost Duke and companion or affected by the news. The 2nd book follows the current Duke and his intended.

Eh. The premise was more exciting than the actual plot. There wasn't much actual plot, come to think of it. And a little too instalove for me. But I liked both main characters. As with many Quinn novels, there was a clear and obvious set up for the next couple, which has potential.

I’m at the point where I no longer can tell if I enjoy Julia Quinn’s writing… or Rosalyn Landor’s narration. She’s ruined me for other audiobook narrators. Either way, it’s exactly what I want in a period romance.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching Bridgerton, so thought I’d give period romance a go. But apparently I much prefer it in a visual medium. Or maybe I prefer Shonda Rhimes interpretation? Anyway - I’ll stick to mysteries for my escapism.
