So, the story itself was nice. But how did Taylor Jenkins Reid + her editorial staff not ask someone familiar with tennis to review this before publishing?? Most of the points described are physically impossible and use the wrong terminology. Really distracting and would have been such an easy editing fix. Also some other issues (implausible comments to the media, etc), but the tennis play was really hard to get past. Nonetheless keeping it at 4 stars bc I know it’s about the story

This one took me a bit longer to get into. Carrie was, I don’t know… insufferable, at first. You just kinda wanted to hit her over her head with her racket like, how don’t you get it yet?! Quit being a twat! But TJR does it again and pulls me in. She does her research because I’ve never been so interested or invested in the game of tennis before. The relationship between Carrie and her father just gripped you. And Bowe - it didn’t even need to be written to feel it. Palpable and easy. No big shenanigans there. And the legacy, the respect, the rivalry with Nicki. I loved it. Very “for love of the game”. And also, women just do it better.

You should really like tennis and it is helpful to know Spanish (luckily I speak it) if you listen to the audiobook. I couldn't stand Carrie; I was surprised anyone liked her at all. I went from The 7 Husbands to this book and am so disappointed. The 7 is a 5 star book and this really fell short for me. SO many tennis plays explained and the MC barely learned anything. At the end, I was listening at 2x the speed just to be done with it. I am glad it ended the way it did!!
