I’m jet lagged and tired and still in bed at 12:20 screaming/shrieking/whining “THAT WAS SO FUCKING GOOD” over and over god DAMN Taylor has done it again. I was absolutely hooked the whole way through, the only reason I didn’t read it in one sitting is because I had to travel jesus christ this woman can write.

Throughly enjoyed this fast paced beach read! The pace of the book reminded me of a game of tennis with the odd break supplied by the social commentary of the events of the book! I pictured every scene of this book in my head and although most of the book takes place on a tennis court I was never once bored.

The main themes of this book women in sport, ageing, and father/daughter relationships where interesting and intriguing to read about without bordering on educational! The father character is a delight!

Half a point removed as there was so much room to develop the emotional and relational elements of this book- although I do appreciate this is not really a genre for this.

Half a point removed for the very obvious love connection!

Loved everything about this book except the long passages and repeated conversations in Spanish. It’s unclear to me why those were not translated for readers and took away from an otherwise wonderful read.

TJR truly does not disappoint. I ate this book up!

I loved how beautiful and realistic every single character was. Carrie Soto had a much smaller cast compared to other TJR works, and it lent itself to even stronger (maybe better?? if that's even possible) characterizations than in Malibu and Daisy. Every scene completely jumped off the page. While sport was central to the book, I didn't feel overwhelmed with having to understand sport to the level Carrie or any other professional does. TJR made even the minutia of a sport I've never played or followed approachable. It was absolutely delicious.

My only note was that sometimes I could not believe some of things Carrie and Bowe did/said at their ages, but honestly that was kind of the whole point. And they turned out all the better for it by the end.

10/10 absolutely loved it

What I am taking from this book is the sheer determination of Carrie. This has lowkey inspired me a lot. How she always fought for what she wanted and how she didn't let up until she got it. Until she got better and perfected her skills. Maybe I can apply some of that mentality to my own life. I am in awe of both Carrie Soto and Nicki Chan and I grew to love them both. Also Sincaraz is kinda the real life version of them I am so embarrassed to write this in a public book review
