As an educator, there are few people I admire more than Dr. Muhammad. She constantly inspires me to be a better educator and gives grace and actual tools to achieve that constant reflection and retooling of our educational practices. It is revolutionary and such a fun and inspiring read.

I read this book for a book club and we broke up up into 4 parts. The chapters had a lot of good ideas for bringing joy and culturally and historically responsive teaching to your practice. There are 5 pursuits to help with planning. Overall it is a good framework for uplifting our teaching practice for us and for our students.

I don't think this is something I can digest on audio.
Loved reading this with my pre-service Social Studies students. The playlists, poetry and coloring pages were so novel in an education text and cultivated so much joy in us as readers. Excited to teach with this text again.

I love that it’s not info dumping. It’s pictures and joy and coloring. There’s actual lesson plans and ideas to try. Everything is rooted in facts. It gets you excited about teaching again. I’d love some more advice about support with getting admin support for teaching changes and curriculum changes too. But maybe that’s a whole other book!
