Another great story that twists and turns, revealing bits and pieces as it goes. It all builds to an exciting ending, keeping you on the edge of your seat to the end.

Good escapist book. Better than the movie in some ways, worse in others.
adventurous dark mysterious tense medium-paced

A sniper positions himself on the roof of a parking garage -- he kills 5 with 6 shots. The sixth went into a pool of water nearby. Evidence leads investigators to a former military man. He doesn't answer just says one thing -- get him Jack Reacher. The military man is put in general population, offends the wrong person, and is put into coma. JR in Florida hears about the case on TV. When he hears the name of the shooter, he heads there.

Turns out Barr had done something similar in the military and got off because those he killed were very dirty. JR told him if it ever happened again, he'd make sure Barr went down.

JR shows up and realizes too much evidence and wrong place for shooter so he goes hunting. Figures it must be about one of the victims. (plus someone tries to get him out of the way and kills a girl to frame JR) So he traces it and also guesses there is someone on the inside of the investigation. JR finally caught by Russians going to jail but reporter says she was sleeping with him during time the girl died. Russians kidnap Barr's sis to make her confess that her brother confided that he did the shooting.

JR gets army sniper and rag tag team to storm Russian safe hold (including lawyer and reporter). He kills most of them, saves the sister, fingers the dirty cop and leaves town.

Good. He only slept with the old flame from military days. Expected him to get with the lawyer or reporter. Face paced.

So, Lee Child is an amazing author within the thriller/tough guy/detective genre. I've read two of his books and they keep you going from beginning to end.
Why four stars? It's like trying to give five stars to the best breakfast place you've ever been. Yes, it's the best breakfast, but is it the best meal? No. It's limited because of what it is. Damn good, but limited.
I have a few nits to pick. He never loses, and never gets hurt. That's the genre, though. That's who he is. He always gets laid, but that's who he is. He leaves at the end like the lone ranger, but that's who he is.
The women he hangs out with are multi-dimensional and intelligent. I like that.
Here's my main complaint. The bad guys make things too complicated when they would have been better off keeping it simple and staying low, never attracting the attention of super detective Reacher. But there wouldn't be a book, then.
I'll probably keep picking one up a couple times a year for good, violent entertainment.

This was not one of my favorite Reacher novel, it was just OK. It started off a little slow but finished well. It is any easy read, there is some good character depth and makes the characters interesting. I still cant imagine Tom Cruise playing Reacher, I cant bring myself to see the movie for that reason.

Really good. I like learning about rifles & target shooting, but the plot twists were very satisfying.

I did think there'd be a big, extended, physical fight between Reacher and the tough Russian guy, so it was nice & unpredictable that there wasn't.

A good book but what it really shows imo is that the writing for the film is also really good.

A really good Reacher novel. Page turning action, detective work, solid story and fun characters. It unfolds and unwinds in a super satisfying way.

I enjoyed this installment of the Jack Reacher series. I did have problems with picturing Tom Cruise as Reacher since I saw the movie adaptation first. Cruise is NOT Reacher, a 6'5", 250 lb former soldier. As usual with a book, the characterizations and explanation of motives is a lot deeper than the movie showed. I look forward to reading the next Reacher novel as I am reading the series in order.
