4 Stars - Another well written page turner in the Jack Reacher series. This book was made into a movie starring Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher which is ridiculously absurd. Cruise is one of the shortest men in Hollywood and Jack Reacher is described in every book as a huge guy, 6'5" and around 250 pounds. Other than that the book and the movie both keep your interest as the story unfolds. I continue to enjoy the series. As books go, the series is not classic literature, but it's fun and not badly written.

This is the first Jack Reacher book I've read, and I picked it up because of the upcoming movie. I have to say my only problem with it is that now I'm going to have to read all of Lee Child's books, and I already have a queue of over 140 "to read".

It's a really great thriller. It's hard to talk about it without revealing too much, hence the spoilers warning. My favorite bit is that Jack is not some flawless superman. He's trailed throughout the book and only once picks it up. That was something I'm not used to in most thrillers. Most of the time the protagonists is presented with an almost supernatural ability to pick up that they're being followed. He's also kind of flawed in that he's essentially a homeless man. He travels with only the clothes on his back and the money in his wallet, staying in shady motels. I'm don't know if this is how he is in every book, but it's also very unique.

It's also a pretty good mystery (even though we know a lot) in that you get to see Reacher put all the pieces together. If all the books are this good, I'm sure I'll have no problem making my way through this series. I now only hope they don't screw up the movie.

Sometimes predictable, but a fast and entertaining read none-the-less. These are stand alone novels, no need to read in any order. I see more of this series in my future.

[One] would never find [Reacher] because Reacher fell off the radar after 1997. Completely and totally. There was no trace of him anywhere. He was still alive, according to the Social Security Administration. He wasn’t in prison, according to the NCIC. But he had disappeared. He had no credit rating. He wasn’t listed as title holder to any real estate, or automobiles, or boats. He had no debts. No liens. No address. No phone number. No warrants outstanding, no judgments entered. He wasn’t a husband. Wasn’t a father. He was a ghost.

So technically I finished this on my bday yesterday but wasn't in the mood to write up a review and forgot to mark as read. Though at the same time I was going to watch the Tom Cruise movie anyway that the book was adapted to and I thought to do another rare movie/book review thing for this. So here it goes:

With this being my second Jack Reacher book, I absolutely love the character, I'm now at this moment writing this review 5 episodes into the TV Reacher series and I have to say Alan Ritchson is A THOUSANDS TIMES BETTER THAN TOM CRUISE! Now, don't get me wrong, I do love a good Tom Cruise movie (though as a person many know he's crazy) but he did a pretty good job as Reacher although he wouldn't be my first choice. The movie did pretty good following the concept and premise of the story, I liked the casting, it was exciting, and yet, some differences of course for those outside the book community had nice touches not gonna lie. It wasn't too horrible for me but I never learn my lesson in moments after reading and/or listening to a book to movie adaptation to never watch the movie fresh and after reading/listening to said book *laughing and face palm*

I'm not one of those who bash and complain as much because I know the book will always be better, duh, but not to the point I say, "I'm never watching this ever again cause it was so horrible." If I'm going to do that to every book to movie adaptation, then why bother watching it at all when I can just watch it as entertainment and as someone who just wants a good movie? I do compare, don't get me wrong on that, but not that much. But I judge on casting, entertainment, and screenwriting by also comparing to said book but again, not to the point I say I end up saying I'm never watching it again because if that's always my attitude, then it's seriously a waste of time and money anyway.

Overall, I absolutely loved this book like a lot! I couldn't stop listening, I loved every minute and hour of it, the story was super clever with a sniper making six shots, killing five people and yet something wasn't quite as it seemed.

(if you don't get this reference in what King William said to describe what attacked him and took Odette, then you need to brush up on your Swan Princess ;) haha)

Okay, but really, the more I kept going through this, the more it was so freaking good. Even the humor and Reacher's wit and banter was great which makes Alan Ritchson in my opinion so much better than Tom Cruise. I don't know what else to say about the book though without giving too much away except that I loved it and never did I even imagine I'd be reading/listening and even getting hooked on Jack Reacher now! I can't wait to read my next Reacher adventure and see what else is in store for him.

Excellent read. Jack Reacher is a mountain of a man, in the mold of an 80s action-movie hero, but with a keen investigator's mind. The combination makes for a terrific leading man and a very enjoyable mystery/thriller. Looking forward to the movie version, even if I'm not thrilled about Tom Cruise playing Reacher

Movie better than the book, because Tom Cruise is perfectly cast as a weird psycho.

An enjoyable read as always with this series of books. Saw the film a couple of years ago so remembered roughly how the story played out. A good read nonetheless.
