We finally got to Conor and Lodestar's romance. It has taken a lot to get to this book since I have been reading Serena's books in her reading order.
I love the relationship and how sweet they were together. They have already fallen in love with each other before they ever met. They have been communicating online for years and are both badass hackers. Now they finally meet face to face and it was amazing. Conor is such a cinnamon-roll hero, and I adore him. Star is so strong and intelligent, but she is vulnerable with him. They both have trauma from their past, but they are so patient with each other.
I will say I have kind of checked out of the whole secret society group plot. It has become pretty complicated and has been going on and on through multiple books. It is a huge part of this book and it kind of bored me in parts, but I loved their relationship.
This ends in a cliffhanger, so I definitely need to pick up the next part soon.

Star is out for blood and vengeance against the men who sold and controlled her fate for years. Conor continues to work through childhood traumas as he assists Star on her campaign to destroy the Sparrows. Conor’s years-long pursuit of and infatuation with Star Sullivan pays off when they meet at last. I loved these two as they collaborated and flirted from afar. But oooh boy, when they are finally in one place sparks explode and the two become inseparable. Even when the twisted and entangled plotlines had me doing a double take or I didn’t know which alphabet agency was hunting which faction, Conor and Star were so riveting I was fully invested from start to finish! And that ending…thank goodness this duet is complete, I’m not sure I could’ve waited to continue!
Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell were top shelf stellar as Connor and Star! Joe’s portrayal of Conor’s relentlessly loyal, morally charcoal, nerdily charismatic hacker personality was phenomenal. Maxine’s performance of Star, the scarred warrior, tenacious mercenary, and fierce mama bear was awe inspiring. Joe and Maxine’s performances were captivating; I couldn’t stop listening to this gritty, delightful, gutting dark mafia romance.

This has been a wild journey, and we’ve all been waiting for Connor and Star’s moment. For so long, we’ve gotten bits and pieces of these characters, and now they’re front and center.
This book was everything and more. Connor was such a refreshing character. He was beyond sweet and patient. He’s the type of man to go to battle for you. In this book, we’ve seen Star in a new light. She’s vulnerable and allowing herself to open up in a way we’ve never seen. Connor and Star have been through so much, and they deserve a happy ending. I love the journey of healing that they’re on.
I’m excited to see where their story leads. Serena is a mastermind when it comes to weaving a story. I can’t wait for more of this mystery to unravel.

Conor and Star’s story has been one of my most anticipated reads so I was ecstatic that Filthy Lies was going to be my first book of 2023!
Finally, after two years, Conor and Star are face-to-face and the circumstances are intense. With everything they both had endured and the family they had come from, how could it not be? Every day they are together, we are shown how absolutely perfect they are for one another. I loved how they are both such hardcore bada$$es but were so vulnerable with each other.
There is a lot going on and with many characters, it was almost too confusing, but I still loved it all. And the way the book started was really clever, recapping without it seeming too repetitive. There is a cliffhanger, but the wait is short and I honestly was too happy to see these two finally be together (Conor finally has his penguin by his side!). Don’t get me wrong that ending was jaw-dropping, I need to know what happens!

Holy fuzzballs

Good read. You'll see several characters from the past books. I have not read the Five series, but I've read the others and I still had a good understanding of who everyone was. I felt the story ran long at times and found myself skimming to get to what was the "meat" of the story for me. I do like the relationship between Connor and Star. They have a lot to work through, but with how much they want to you know they will.

Conor radiates golden retriever energy but is possessive and will fight for those he loves. Star
has such a terrible past but still has mangged let Conor in.
