I loved this magical story! Within the first words, "The bottom of the lake tasted like mud, salt and regret," I was introduced to spunky princess Shiori, an Asian teen girl who is determined to avoid her betrothed, even if it means jumping in a lake. When a curse takes her far from family and the comforts of royalty and sentences her to be mute, she must learn a whole new way of life and the skills to survive. This exciting fantasy with its strong Asian female character and setting is a great addition to the YA genre.
