Une bonne lecture, un plot simple, des personnages bien décrits mais sans fioriture.
Si vous cherchez une lecture YA sans prise de tête, mais qui ne révolutionne pas le monde je vous le conseille.

Loved all the twists and the romance was so cute with just the right amount of angst. Seems like a simple fairytale about an evil stepmother but there’s more than meets the eye there. The only part of the story I didn’t care that much about was Shiori’s brothers, there were just too many of them without enough distinguishing features between them so I was constantly mixing them up. But Shiori was a strong main character (who kind of reminded me of Yona of the Dawn) and I found myself really getting invested when her relationship with Takkan came into play.

I especially liked how Shiori misunderstood both Takkan and her stepmother, and grew to love them as she developed. Her misunderstanding of both was understandable, as Takkan was the man who would take her away from her family and Raikama literally cursed her, but it made for a satisfying conclusion that she came around on both so quickly.

I also was surprised to see Seryu in this book as I had no idea it was connected to Forgery of Fate. Honestly wasn’t crazy about him so I didn’t mind that he wasn’t in the story much, but I’ll see if I warm up to him in the sequel.

I have too many thoughts about this book bouncing around in my brain to make a reasonable review, but just know that it was amazing. The familial relationships between Shiori, her stepmother, her father, and her brothers were so relatable and heartbreaking in the length of pain they would endure for one another. The curse that her stepmother, Raikama, put on her was very unique as well, and while I was skeptical about how it would all play out, the overall complexity and conclusion of the curse and its solution were amazing, and I loved seeing how multilayered it was. I am not fully convinced of Shiori and Takkan's love, but I think it's cute tbh and who am I to get in the wya of that. I am very interested to see how Seryu plays into all of this, but that is for later.

My only complaint with this book is that the writing can sometimes be a little childish; however, given the FMC's personality and situation, it does fit fairly well.

really enjoyed this, it helped me get out of my slump. would recommended if you like books that feel magical and captivating.

𖥔 ݁ ˖✶ ⋆˚₊ plot + writing
there’s something about Elizabeth lim’s writing that captivates me. every book I’ve read so far by her — four books — I have thoroughly enjoyed and this book is no exception. i randomly started this book after having it, rot away on my shelves —yes, im ashamed to admit this— to get myself out of a slump, and it did the job. when I wasn’t reading the book i was thinking about it. the writing is so whimsical and flows very easily, drawing you right back into the story every time you pick it up.

after reading some reviews a common thread of why people didn’t like this book is that they found the middle boring. which i can understand since the middle is kinda a side tangent and its isn’t really focused on the overarching plot of the book. it didn’t bother me at first, since i didn’t even notice it, because of how much i liked the writing. then i was like can something please happen, because i had so many thoughts and i just wanted to see if i was correct.

₊˚.༄ shiori
shiori our mc. love her. she’s stubborn, but diligent. over the course of the book — 6 months ish — we see her character develop but not too much, that it’s unrealistic. and the character growth was consistent with the person we were introduced to at the start. she did make some decisions that made me frustrated but, because of her characterisation and couldn’t hold it against her.

₊˚.༄ takkan
omg i love takkan, he’s such a sweetheart. he is defined a softer male love interest, not the usual morally grey love interest and i thought it was perfect. he was genuinely a kind person, but he wasn’t naive and he was also strong. he was the best fighter and i really liked that point to show that even if a boy is nice it doesn’t mean that he isn’t strong. also really liked the fact that he had is own opinions and stood by them, not easily swayed by what others thought, yes he did take them into consideration but he didn’t blindly believe anything and everything.

₊˚.༄ seryu
we barely see him hopefully in the next we get to know about him

₊˚.༄ kiki
shiori’s voice of reason. undoubtedly if she wasn’t here shiori would’ve got her self killed so quickly. an amazing support system for shiori, but she doesn’t indulge in shiori in her antics and tells her the truth even if she won’t listen.

₊˚.༄ others
i absolutely adore megari, she’s adorable. i audibly laughed at comments made by her, our humour is so similar. we had the exact same feelings about zairena.

love her brothers, lim does such a good job of establishing the relationship between them and shiori, even if they are barely on page. i would read books with them as the main characters.

once you finish the book raikama
becomes such a pitiable character. she’s just somebody who wanted to be loved and make mistakes, then had to pay for it for the rest of her life. you can really tell she just wanted to protect the children in the way she thought was best.
