God, Lynette Noni is SO TALENTED!!! Aussie author love for lifeeeeee! This was SO GOOD!!!

My 5 star rating sticks after re-reading it through Audible, if anything it was even better the second time because now I know where all of the sprinkles of things to come mean. Considering that I don't re read books often and I've done it within 6 months of reading it the first time, if you haven't picked this series up yet it's a must and is truly one of the best series I've ever read.

Enjoyable enough that I wanted to continue on. Follows a lot of typical "new to magical world via a boarding school" tropes. I'll be interested to see where this series goes.

I really enjoyed the books [b:Whisper|34020950|Whisper (Whisper, #1)|Lynette Noni|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1504853373l/34020950._SX50_.jpg|55019335] and Weapon by this author, so when I saw another series, I jumped on board. This one was just okay for me though. Felt very young. Felt a little HP ... the whole going to a magical school (I realize there are a ton of YA out there with this theme). I just felt like Alex adapted REALLY quickly to this change - stepped into another world? Okay. People are magic here? No problem. I'm supposed to go to school here? Sure. In the end, it was SO "Wizard of Oz" ... seriously! This was included in the AudiblePlus, so it was free with my membership, as is the sequel. We'll see if I'll continue on. I haven't decided yet.

So even though I had two issues at the beginning of the book in retrospect they don’t even matter given how much I frighten adored the rest of this book. I thought it was funny, well written, addictive in both plot and characters and just overall an amazing read! It is kinda spooky to me how quickly this series has snuck up to being one of my favourite series ever. I think (almost) everything about this book is just perfect and just the flow of it is so astoundingly gorgeous!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE

Review for the series as a whole:
Bloody brilliant, 4.5/5 stars. You should read it, and I'm saddened no one I know has ever heard of it. (Though to be fair I have no idea how I stumbled on it myself.)

This first book is her debut novel, and it's perfectly fine but not as well written as the other ones. Of course it wouldn't be! But the storyline, the world building, the character development, everything gets better as the series goes on.

I was on the fence after Akarnae if I wanted to continue with the story - it was nice but series are such a commitment and all. So glad I decided to! I read the remaining five full length books in two weeks flat and am currently feeling the itch to reread them immediately now knowing everything going on in the background. (I will have self control. I will have self control.)

The nice thing too with it being a portal fantasy is you're not bombarded with a whole new complex world in the beginning like you often do with high fantasy. Everything is built on at a great pace throughout the series for the world to grow but not confuse. It's just so very well executed, outside of this first book being a bit rough and book 4.5 not being as polished. I'll take it.
