Yet again another good addition to the series.
Also this book went back to the old school gods, don't get me wrong I really enjoyed learning about the Cherokee's and I am looking forward to the next book and learning more. But these are the gods and legends that I love :)
A few re-appearances from previous characters, But I miss Ash & Kyrian, I want to know how Kyrian and Amanda's girl is doing. Well and how everyone else is doing.
My biggest mystery, though, is still Jaden, will we be getting his book, I want to know what he is, who he is and where he came from.
Though a long wait until the next Dark Hunter, hopefully Nick will keep me going til then with his new release next year :)

Seth is the epitome of a tortured hero, but he's also adorable! Lydia was a big change from normal dream hunter stories where they're basically feeling-less before, she had a great attitude. Not sure I would give it 4 stars this time around, but let's stick to my initial feelings.
I enjoyed it, but the whole thing felt kind of rushed to me. I don't know. I just seemed as though things could have been explained more.
Dream-Hunter Lydia has been charged with the most sacred and dangerous of missions: to descend into the Nether Realm and find the missing god of dreams before he betrays the secrets that could kill her and her kind. What she never expects is to be taken prisoner by the Realm's most vicious guardian...
Seth's time is running out. If he can't hand over the entrance to Olympus, his own life and those of his people will be forfeit. No matter the torture, Seth hasn't been able to break the god in his custody. Now there's the Dream-Hunter Lydia: She isn't just guarding the gates of Olympus--she's holding back one of the world's darkest powers. If she fails, an ancient curse will haunt the earth once more and no one will be safe. But evil is always seductive...
Even though this book focused more on the Dream-Hunters, it's still a wonderful part of the Dark-Hunterverse. I loved getting to see some of the previous characters: Zarek, Solin, Jaden, Ma'at, Delphine and Jericho. Although I would have loved to see more of what has been going on in their lives since their previous books (but that's for other stories). It was intriguing to get a little information on the Egyptian pantheon, especially since Menny plays such a big part in Nick's life and to an extent Ash's and the rest of the Dark-Hunters as well.
We got some inclusion of many previous storylines as well. Since the setting was primarily Azmodea, it ties in the whole Thorn and his Hellchasers story. Then there was a short stay at Sanctuary where we got to see Carson and Dev for a minute. There was also some talk on the Malachai storyline, which I would have liked more on that aspect (the whole thing with Adarian's deal with Seth). It was interesting at the end to see how Nick kind of stepped in in place of Adarian.
Lydia was intriguing since she's half Dream-Hunter and half Kattagaria which seems like it's pretty rare. Especially since I really liked the way she was trying to rescue Solin and even though she saw that he was bigger and meaner, she still refused to cower in front of Seth. I also liked how she started to see past the Guardian to the man beneath. And how she tried to show him that people can be nice and love without setting out with the express intention of hurting you.
Seth was also intriguing. He's a demigod who was betrayed by both his parents and sold to Noir when he was a child and ever since, he's served as Noir's Guardian, torturing whoever he's told and generally being under Noir and Azura's thumbs for years. Seth was such a tortured hero, who never knew any love at all so he's generally got jaded view of anyone. He's firmly in the "every man for himself" camp and doesn't honestly believe that anyone can do something for anyone else without expecting something in return. Knowing that, it was actually very sweet watching as he spent time with Lydia and as he protected her and got to know her. And in general, watching the two of them fall in love was great too.

you find out that Solin and Lydia's mother never officially mated.Seth was also intriguing. So, I wrote a review for this when I read it but accidentally deleted a whole bunch of reviews when I was reorganizing my shelves... So I guess I just have to read them all again so I can give accurate reviews :D
I want so badly to give this book a higher rating. From the beginning setup alone, it had so much potential to be an interesting plot with plenty of angst and development and a good enemies-to-lovers romance. What I got instead was so utterly disappointing, boring, and unoriginal.
It was, essentially, stale bread.
I’ve read so many fanfictions that are better written than this. I’ve read cheesy romance novels with dark brooding males countless times. I’ve been there. But this book was so utterly predictable in every regard.
I liked the main female character, Lydia, and the main male character, Seth, at the very beginning. Great introductions with room to produce great scenes. That’s why by the end, I was quite shocked that I really thought there were more to these characters. As stories typically progress the characters grow and develop. Their “progress” felt so plain and.... boring. Predictable.
It felt like this entire book was written so slow. Almost as if in the middle of the book the author realized she had to get the plot moving along. The pacing was absolutely TERRIBLE. New events would come out of nowhere and take far too long to progress the story. This book felt like a novella. It was so short and VERY rushed midway through. That is so disappointing because I’ve read so many books with insta-love but they still manage to pace things nicely and all the events that take up time are important and matter.
Speaking of insta-love, WHAT THE HELL IS THE ROMANCE IN THIS BOOK!?! Their relationship starts with so much potential and clearly alludes to being a slowburn relationship type of thing. I mean, how could it not? When Mr. Tragic Past has been abused and has been thru some messed up crap, I wouldn’t expect him to trust so easily. So they’re at odds with each other and... while she’s being held captive with him they just fall in love all of a sudden? Out of NOWHERE?
I thought there relationship was barely beginning to be friends at this point, and the book throws romance at you like it’s been there all along.
MIND YOU, I was shocked because even books that have insta-love have buildup that makes sense! They have tension! You KNOW they’re gonna do the diddly, but the fun is how they’re getting there, and them falling in love along the way. THIS IS NOWHERE NEAR WHAT HAPPENS IN THIS BOOK. These two barely know a thing about each other personally. Yeah, she knows his tragic past and all, but WHAT ELSE IS THERE? She just pities him and therefore loves him? Why does he even love her, because she took care of him? That’s IT? No other reason!?! They never get to know each other with conversation. Find similarities with each other. He has some smutty thoughts of her, but hell, they are so BORING and not passionate AT ALL. There is NO sexual or romantic tension between these two.
The book never really takes upon the point of the fact he thinks she’s just taking care of him to escape. This book is so rushed and makes characters have thoughts and feelings without those ever getting resolved. It's a big MESS.
Ya’ll, I don’t mind stolkhome romances. I’ll love it if it’s done well (I.E. the Shatter Me series), but this book was such PLAIN SPAHGETTI with absolutely no passion whatsoever, I couldn’t even get past the romance.
All the side characters were boring and forgettable except for Jaden. He was funny, charming, and admitted for his mistakes and took responsibility for Seth. (how rare for a big "tough" guy to do)!
Noir is disgusting and just annoying to read about constantly.
The most enjoyable part of the story was Seth’s character and backstory, which even then wasn’t enough. Wasted potential.
The world building is pretty much non existent. No further information about anything.
In short, this book was pointless. It was an overall disappointing read and I’m sad to say so.

I sort of picked this installment up out of nostalgia. I used to love grabbing every Darkhunter novel I could find and finishing them in one sitting. At this point, my tastes have sort of moved past these. A lot of the phrasing seems recycled, the plot certainly is, several recurring characters do make cameos, and while it was fun to read, it doesn't add anything as far as characters or story to the overall world that Kenyon has created.
