I’m sorry Sherri.. I tried to like this book and go through it but I couldn’t

DNF

4.5 stars.

This book reminded of me why Kenyon is one of my all time favorite authors.

A formulaic and guilty pleasure, but I do enjoy these books.

Good story. The ending could have been better. It followed the same plot as several others in this series, except after the emotional crunch it just summarized rather than showing the reunion; which was disappointing. 4.5 out 5 stars. Wish i could read redemption, but not willing to pay that much.

What a relief! After Retribution, I was afraid The Guardian would continue the trend but it was really good! It had a feeling of Sherrilyn´s earlier books.

What I liked:
- Seth was a prototype of a tortured hero that we love. After thousands of years being tortured by Noir, saying he has trust issues is the understatement of the millenium. Seeing him re-gain some of the trust he lost was so good. He was so hurt that I wanted to cry for him.
But when she brushed her hand lightly against his cock, he jerked away from her and grabbed her wrist to keep her from stroking him.
That reflex caught her completely off guard. She’d never had a man do that to her before. Usually they begged to be touched.
Once again, he surprised her.
Mystified, she met his uncertain gaze.
He pulled her hand up and laid it against his chest before he finally explained. “I can perform a lot better for you if you wait until the end to hurt me there.

He only knew pain and betrayal in his life and he was fighting really hard to overcome it. *sigh*

- meeting familiar characters, especially getting to know more about Jaden.

- Lydia in the beginning. When she teached Seth how to trust again. When she was using endearments like sweetie when she talked to him. BUT...

What I disliked:
- Lydia acting like a jealous bitch the moment they got out of hell. Seriously?!! The man was being held in hell and tortured for more than 4000 years and you ran like a Fury on him when he SPEAKS to another woman?? And yet HE was the one who had to apologize?? Or when Seth called Lydia an endearment word for lily and she thought he was saying another woman´s name? She was so self-centered that it hurt and I wanted to stab her myself.

- the abrupt rescue in the end

I love how badass this heroine is. She doesn't take attitude from any of the characters, especially the hero. But she doesn't ride rough-shoes over him, either. She's sensitive to his past hurts.

Sherri does a great job of showing the conflict in the hero. He doesn't want to torture people, he's been tortured. But he's trying to avoid being tortured again.

Read this in a couple of hours. Epic goodness. Highly recommend.

Loved this book, it was the first book in such a long time that made me stay up all night, I could not put this one down.

For some reason, The Guardian really worked for me. In terms of story and characters, it was nothing especially striking in the world of the Dark Hunters and the Dream Hunters, or even paranormal romance overall, but the connection between Seth and Lydia helped the book pulse with an energy that had me gripped and invested in their story. Much less frustrating than Jess's book, fortunately.
