Pretty good story, though I did not enjoy the narration. Will read the next one.

I will typically give any book I finish 3 stars by default. But I can't with this book.
The narrator was so annoying! I couldn't tell if it was the actual writing of the author or just portrayal of the protagonist's inner monologue.
But I wanted to know the mystery so I skimmed/finished it.
Also the love interest and tension was boring. I actually preferred the one scene with a side character. He was much more interesting.

Graphic Audio is amazing, as always.
The story was interesting and I liked all the characters, even if the main character, Reagan, had maybe a few too many 'funny' quips

Crazy is fun
I've never thought about before the digital age. Did jerks send snail mail d pics? That made me laugh. U accidentally read Penny's series, at least the first two books, before this. Getting Reagan's story was a huge treat and gave me an inside perspective into her mind. She's crazy, spontaneous, and extremely likeable.

This intro into the DDVN universe was much more entertaining than Penny's in [b:Natural Witch|36691913|Natural Witch (Magical Mayhem #1)|K.F. Breene|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1512064053s/36691913.jpg|58488967]. Penny's coddled child/adulthood didn't make her a very endearing protagonist and I found her to be overall very annoying. Reagan, on the other hand, is a watered down version of Kate Daniels. She's hiding her true nature/magical capabilities to avoid a certain someone, she is incredibly skilled with her sword, she has great magical talents, and she's a merc. She's basically Kate Daniels, but not as well done.
Breene has a habit of not having her characters curse, but instead of using normal words, they use weird substitutes. Instead of it being unique to a character, everyone seems to curse like Penny (only Penny does it more often). Breene also doesn't seem very good at building up relationships. It's almost a love at first sight scenario. Where Ilona Andrews did a great build up of Kate's relationship with Curran (it took 3 friggin books), Breene shoved it into book 1 where Darius had the hots for her and was in no way secretive about it. They might have had decent chemistry, but I could have done with more build up. Also, Reagan's true nature wasn't hidden very well.

Great read!
I LOVE K.F. Breenes sense of humor! It really does add something to her books! You get everything you need and more! A lot of new interests come with this book, and you learn some cool things. I highly recommend this book if you like this genre, humor, sexual tension, fighting, etc. Gotta go read the next book, as should you!
