Historical fiction.  A horrific time when people had to make extremely difficult decisions that could be life altering or ending. It was a good rea.

I love reading about periods in history that I don't know much about! If you research the US Space Program and Operation Paperclip

I was gripped as I read The German Wife from beginning to end. With incredible focus to historical details, Kelly Rimmer presents a multi-layered novel that asks 'how far would you go to protect your loved ones'?
If I could, I would give The German Wife SIX STARS for such a thought provoking and gripping story that feels true to the times, the fears, the biases, and the challenges in the 40's and 50's in Germany as well as the US.

I'm always in a moral dilemma when it comes to poorly rate stuff inspired by terrific events, but... It was an ok book.

The characters didn't feel particularly interesting and I personally felt like all the important subjects were lightly touched on (post-war PTSD, Nazi ideology, concentration camps, WWII) and they mostly felt distant (except for the Dust Bowl, which, somewhat, felt like it the most descriptive part).

Having back-and-forths on the timelines (and between two different characters) ended up making me feel completely detached from the story.

It wasn't a particularly pleasant reading...

This book is told in dual timeline and multiple POV. The different timelines cover some of the hardest times from the dust bowl to WWII to segregation in the early 1950's. I was very interested in these timelines and have not seen them in the same book before. It reminded me that all the times could have happened in one persons lifetime and it would have been a very hard life. Kelly writes about the emotion the characters have and how they did not always have control over their lives. Once I started the book I had a very hard time putting it down. I could picture to scenes happening in my mind and when that happens, I know the author wrote a great book. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

4.5⭐️… the layout of the book was a little confusing at first. Waiting to see how the two story lines come together was a bit slow, however, when it picked up I couldn’t put it down. This book is heartbreaking. I cried multiple times
