Beautifully written book. Had me crying sad tears, happy tears, and everything in between. A story of resilience and starting over. I cannot recommend enough.
Like most I enjoyed this book. I appreciated it showing the struggle of Germans who were against the Reich but unaware of what options they had without risking their lives. On the flip side it did a good job of showing what was happening in America in the lead up of WWII and the struggles that were faced without any sort of option to change what was happening.
It is well written and does a wonderful job of making you think about the choices people faced. It also poses the questions of whether or not we should have allowed so many German scientists into the US after the war. A very thought provoking book that was easy to read and focused on a maybe less typical area of the WWII genre

3.5. Enjoyable but nothing earth shattering. Loved the different perspectives and that it wasn’t the same as every other WWII historical fiction book out there though.

I couldn’t put this book down! I loved every second of it - the heartbreak, the anger, and the love. This book is based on Operation Paperclip which was created after WWII and german scientists were brought to American and forgiven for their war crimes. It follows the wife of one of the germans as well as one of the American wives. Truly loved how Kelly paints her stories and i’m exited to read another one of hers soon!

Honestly full of impossible decisions and unimaginable horrors. While this wasn’t my favorite of favorites, I was really intrigued by, and grateful for, the perspective of Sofie.
