this book was so bogged down with pointless pop culture references and INSANELY long, meandering descriptions of what each and every character was wearing that it completely took me out of the story. also, including seemingly random party anecdotes from characters that were not previously mentioned/were wholly irrelevant to the story itself was... a choice.

Malibu Rising has a certain charm that makes it great. I like how there are a lot of things going on but also has little to no plot at all. This is a character-driven book and for me, it has been written beautifully. The main characters all have different tones. TJR might be my new favorite author! (I understand the hype now)
