Very comprehensive and quite exciting. Even as hospital reading, which is unusual. Typically I need fiction to keep my interest. I feel like I need to read it again as it covered so much - and had so many names and titles - I had a difficult time keeping it all in my head. But overall what a sad time for England, I have a much better feel for how the monarchy developed and the uncertainty during this time period.

Her naming scheme by the end becomes confusing, but a solid introductory work to the period.

A substantial account of the events focused on the main people involved.

I was listening to the audiobook read by Maggie Mash, which wasn't very good. She'd read quotes in accents that I assume were appropriate to the person quoted, but I found them annoying and distracting.

A lovely read about a period in history, that focuses on the moving pillars of the time; The lords, ladies, and regents (pretenders or otherwise) who were the movers and shakers of a turbulent time in Britain. The person-focused narrative keeps things accessible and engaging, and prevents the text from feeling dry. It is long, and I feel I was losing things in places, as could be expected with such a large cast of historical figures, but overall entertaining and informative.

A good primer on this period/conflict. I’m going to use this as a reference rather than read cover to cover.
