I am really super torn on this book. I thought the writing was excellent and engrossing, but extremely overwrought. Overwrought is actually the perfect word to describe this book. Granted, these are angsty teens with all the melodrama that implies. Also, they were dealing with difficult life/home situations, so maybe some melodrama is warranted. Over all a sweet book about two teens almost codependently attached and in love dealing with harsh stuff.

I really wanted to like it but I couldn't. I was expecting an epic romance and now, a day after finishing it, I don't remember that much of the book.

I read this book right after I read Fangirl (my first novel by R.R) because I was suffering from Rainbow Rowell withdrawal.
I regret that decision.
Not to say that this book wasn't good - it was awesome - but it has a dark vibe. Very different from the lightheartedness of Fangirl.
I like my contemporary fiction fluffy and happy and light :D
Over all, it was an awesome book, just not my thing.

I had a bit of a hard time getting into this story first.
Only because it got recommended to me over and over again did I pick it up a second time, and managed to get over the first 30 pages.
After that though - I read the rest in one go.
It is a really wonderul, honest, not at all cheesy, quiet and just beautiful lovestory between two teenagers, whoose family background is so very different.

Eleanor and Park is by no way a story about an idyllic world. Eleanor doesn't have it easy - neither at school, nor at home. The sory has a dark side too, so I can recommend it for ages 14 and up.
I don't want to say a lot more, as to not spoiler the story for anyone. The only other thing I think is good to know, is that the story has a rather open ending.

This book was adorkable (to borrow a phrase from Zoe Deschanel). It was all about young love comprised of comic books and cassette tapes. Eleanor and Park are naive, innocent, and insecure to the point of extreme annoyance... but then 16-year-old relationships are exactly all of those things. I appreciated the honesty of the story. And that honesty got to me, and annoyed me, probably because it hit so close to home. It's all the things I thought and felt with my first boyfriend at 15. How can anyone my age actually be in love? I'm far too young. It's the reason I broke up with my first boyfriend, I was scared that he would get bored with me and what would happen if he stopped liking me, and it freaked me out that he could be so in to me when I wasn't the prettiest or coolest girl at school. Reading all of Eleanor's same thoughts made me realize how stupid all of that sounds. But it's human.
