I like Kate Canterbury’s books and this one sounded fun but I DNF’d this book at around 50%. The pacing was off, too slow for me. I don’t mean slow burn. The author tried to put a lot of high stakes external conflict into the plot but it didn’t keep me hooked. I also agree with other reviews which point out there are MANY secondary characters and it also slowed me down.

It’s too slow

So, being a newish Kate Canterbary fan, and having loved every book of hers that I've read, I could not wait to get my hands on SHUCKED. IN A JAM was such an immediate favorite of mine, so to see that we'd be going back to Friendship, RI, for this book notched it even higher on my must-read list.

SHUCKED was exactly the book that I was hoping for. I mean, a frenemies situation with plenty of heat, lots of heart, and Beckett, a guy that I didn't necessarily love right off the bat (okay, it didn't take long, but still) but ended up being a total dream. Immediate addition to my 'I adore this book' list.

I totally want to go hang out at Naked Provisions, because these women are like the perfect girl gang. They are such an awesome mix of personalities, and Kate has done an amazing job of writing these characters, along with Parker (funny because I don't have to parent him), Mel, and all of the crew at SPOC, and can we just talk about Ranger and Phil Collins? Genius, I tell you.

Having fallen so completely in love with this world, I can't wait to see more of the folks that live here. Dex, the Naked ladies, I'm here for all of it. In the meantime, y'all, grab this book. And if you haven't read IN A JAM yet, grab it, too. You will love everything about them. ❤️

Now this is how you incorporate insta-love! You make it funny, with sizzling hot chemistry. And when the time comes, you don't just skim the surface of your characters, you take the time and effort to dig deep, so they end up doing the work to learn about themselves and their needs. Excellent work, Kate Canterbary!

2.75 ⭐️’s
This book was far too long; the romance didn’t start for almost two hundred pages. Plus, I didn’t care for either of the main characters as they acted extremely juvenile, and the conflict of this book came out of left field: there was no reason to include it in an already long and boring book. I also could not keep the numerous side characters straight; they seemed to be thrown in there just for the sake of it. I love a big cast of characters, but these just felt extremely two dimensional.

this book has way too many plotlines for my liking, unfortunately.

i am also aghast at how it look beckett the whole book to realize that remote work is a thing... what a weird little fella.
