I think I’ll read anything Kate Canterbury writes. This book was so refreshing to have an extremely emotionally mature woman call out a not as emotionally mature guy on his stuff to deal with before dating him.

This is my second book by [a:Kate Canterbary|8345486|Kate Canterbary|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1608305720p2/8345486.jpg] and I can say for sure that she has become one of my favorite authors. There is no author who makes me laugh and enjoy her books like her, and I love the way her love stories always have that peculiar, romantic and funny touch that I love so much in her writing, and of course Sunny & Beckett were no exception, and the secondary characters complement the plot in a great way!
Sunny stole my heart right away! Her character has a charming personality and a big heart that serve as a shield to maintain her freedom and independence, an aspect that I loved in her but at the same time broke my heart a bit, since reading her complicated path with epilepsy, especially when she was younger, was a little painful, but it helped me to understand much better her initial resentment for Beckett, her desire to show that she can take care of herself and her situation with her family. I also really liked that Sunny always had the support of the girls from Naked Provisions and the inhabitants of Friendship. Plus, I think she's one of the most mature heroines I've ever read when it comes to expressing what she's feeling and helping Beck understand what he's feeling, and that scene between her and Parker was also very moving and made me love all three of them a little more.
Beckett is a bit more complicated character, and while I think he acts like a real jerk at times, I couldn't help but love him even then. He's the oldest of the Lowes, the grump who has to return to Friendship to solve his family's problems once again, and finds himself caught up in the chaos of the town he always sought to escape from, and things get even more complicated for Beck when he discovers that Sunny, his best friend's little sister, is one of the owners of the new cafe across the street from his family's oyster bar. BUT deep down Beckett is more than Friendship's number one enemy, he's a man who shows time and time again how much he loves Sunny, and cares about her, as can be the dumbest, cutest, and sexiest at the same time, and I loved that Kate showed us the complexity of his relationship with his parents, with Parker and also with Dex, that scene with the gnomes was one of the funniest and most revealing in the entire book and I can't wait to read more moments like that in the rest of the series.
The relationship between Sunny & Beckett doesn't start off in the best way because she cannot forget the way Beck & Lance, her brother, tormented her when she was little and vulnerable an aspect that I loved about the story, also, Beck does everything to put distance between them since, from their first meeting, he begins to feel things that he shouldn't for his best friend's sister, and yet it is impossible for him not to help her when she needs it and not try to solve her problems, after all, that is why he returned to Friendship. These two have the most bizarre, cutest, and funniest interactions, and Shucked explored perfectly the complexity of their feelings for each other, their fears, vulnerabilities, and all the obstacles they have to overcome if they really want to be together.

SHUCKED – KATE CANTERBARY
The Loew Brothers #1
An ARC copy of the book was given by the author in exchange for an honest review.
RATING
⭐⭐⭐⭐
4 out of 5.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Beckett Loew is used to cleaning up other people’s messes. Especially his family’s. This time around the mess put his father in federal prison, his mother is lost somewhere in South America and his brothers are non-responsive to his inquiries.
Not mentioning the flailing and messy money laundering business, excuse me, restaurant that needs his attention to detail to stay afloat.
Cleaning up messes is one thing, realising your best friend’s little sister is temptation personified is another.
Sunny duJardin has lived her adult life to spite her childhood one: free of baggage, sailing around the world, finding purpose. Winning a bait shop on a round of poker and turning it into a flourishing vegan restaurant is maybe the next challenge, but she sure as hell won’t let it fail due to the arrogant next door neighbour, who happens to be extremely great at forearm foreplay.
They’re all wrong for each other.
Bitter rivals.
Complete opposites.
Off limits.
Except they can’t keep their hands off each other.
They tell themselves it’s nothing more than a steamy summer fling until secrets spill and real trouble comes their way.
REVIEW:
Kate Canterbary is an auto buy author for me. Whatever she decides to put out, I will – no matter what – read. And enjoy and sing hymns about and then impatiently check whether she has a new release in the upcoming weeks. Now, the latter is just a fever dream, but it sounds heavenly.
Sunny and Beckett seem all wrong for each other.
She is sunny with all the puns intended, he is stormy. He wears three piece suits, she is most comfortable in wrap skirts. He is a fixer, she is content in the midst of chaos. He was the bully in her story growing up, meanwhile her brother was the one pillar he could always lean on.
Once they meet again, they start on the wrong foot. It was absolutely hilarious to see how the composed Beckett lost his ever-loving mind over just a hair flip of Sunny. Her hatred toward him is fuelled even more by his inability to let things go by him easily, so after offending her in one sentenced and saving her from being trampled, emotions start to run at a high fever. They know it’s all wrong, their inability to stay in each other’s orbit without bickering for a second is proof enough.
But deep down, they are quite similar. Both care immensely for their friends and loved ones. Both are ruthless business people, with a flair for dramatic gestures. Beckett loves to rile Sunny up, which meant the banter was otherworldly. I highlighted the absolute maximum from every interaction the main characters shared, as their witty dialogue was quintessentially true to the author but refreshing at the same time!
I loved the undercurrent of something’s is up, the tension is delivered was an extra cherry on the cake!
The small town romance is starting to become a staple in the author’s repertoire, and I was so happy to re-visit the town of Friendship and its crazy habitants. If you’re looking for an enemies to lovers, sibling’s best friend, opposites attract delight, look no further!

If this man pets dogs and then immediately touches her face one more time I swear to god. So gross.
