Guys, this book is boring. It's "Hot Milk" but with all of the sex, intrigue, drama, characters, and fun.

This woman has me shaking my head in awe while reading with how well she chooses her wording. It’s a delight!

I can’t believe this is was a NYT Notable Book and on so many “best book of the year” lists. I found the narrator to be so boring and the wording was too verbose. I didn’t gain much insight into any of the characters and they all seemed one dimensional.

Officially a Katie Kitamura stan now.
“It was a strange project for a man who had hitherto lost nothing of significance, whose life was intact in all its key particulars. If he has cause for grief, it was only in the abstract. But he was drawn to people who were in a state of loss. This gave people the mistaken impression that he was a sympathetic man.”
“In the end, what is a relationship but two people, and between two people there will always be room for surprises and misapprehensions, things that cannot be explained. Perhaps another way of putting it is that between two people, there will always be room for failures of imagination.”
“…the kind of woman who knew where to get your hair blow-dried and nails manicured, information that is sometimes meaningless, but that also sometimes tells the entire story).”

Whoa, I did not care about anything other than the wailing woman in this. a woman goes looking for her secretly seperated husband because the mother in law is making her and she does not find good news.
Too slow and the meandering writing was not for me.

The writing is generally good but does run long and gets repetitive. I found the whole book depressing though. Ugh.
