I love a good prequel. Ever since reading bewitched and bespelled I have wanted to know about Selene and Memnons first life together.
How they fell in love and how it fell apart! It was so fun to see the origins of their love and I adored seeing Roxi grow into such a strong woman and sorceress. I knew the ending would break me but I loved the journey.

Let me preface this review by saying I LOVE Bewitched & Bespelled, it is a 5βοΈ feeling series for me and I think about Memnon and Selene all the time! If you have not read those books PLEASE GO NOW AND ADD THEM TO YOUR TBR! That being said - - -
I went into this prequel expecting a wild, angsty story about how Memnon & Roxilana fell in love and all that transpired up until *you know what happens* (if youβve read the first two books π HELLO π«SPOILER) Unfortunately, I only felt a connection to this story BECAUSE of my existing love for this couple. It was lust-forward, sometimes a little cringy, and there were points I just felt like I was reading the cliff notes version when I wanted so much more out of hard, emotional topics.
Part of me wishes Laura Thalassa had kept this as a shorter novella as she originally intended because *for me* the 500+ page novel just felt a bit unnecessary, I got bored with the spice, and I was ready for it to end well before the end π
Memnon still had some downright delectable book husband moments and Roxilana is a total badass in her own right! I will continue to love these characters and the wait for the final installment is EXCRUCIATING bc I need to know what happens!
