I wanted to like this book, I was really excited for it. Especially when they started describing the magic, and it was clearly based on old witchcraft trials and 17th c ideas of magic. That was super cool! But as a read further it was based far more in Wicca, a modern religious movement that has little to do with historical practices. Elizabeth started to bore me as a character, and I was disturbed by the claim that this is a historical romance, given the only person she has a significant "romantic" relationship with is a horrible and abusive person.
Decided it wasn't worth another 6 hours of my life, and rather regretted the hours I'd already put in.

I enjoyed this book, but mostly loved the characters. At a certain point, the plot became a bit predictable; although, I did like the story and ending. The characters were the best part: I loved to love the protagonists and loved to hate the antagonist. I look forward to reading the sequel.

Think this was a nice story, I liked the characters. Lacked a little bit of depth for me, I would have liked more time setting up the relationship between Bess and Gideon at the beginning as I wasn't buying into the whole nemesis trope until the end. I also think the good Vs evil as it was presented was a little too black and white for me and the plot was predictable at times. That being said it was generally an enjoyable read.

This book wasn't bad but it wasn’t great either. I was bored at times and I don't remember much of the book, but I remember being frustrated a bit with some of the choices being made. Don’t even get me started with Bess having a romance with an on the page rapist.
