Enjoyed the book but it wasn’t a masterpiece. It tackled women’s issues related to motherhood - like ALL of them. Its heart, and politics, was in the right place. I just could have used a more skillful approach to the writing.

I expect this book will be recommended for Mother’s Day gifts. This story is about three women and the consequences that come from lack of choice.
It is also about a group of women who were willing to sacrificed their freedom to provide an alternative solution to forced adoption and back room abortions consequently giving women the control over their own bodies.

This was an intense look into abortion and motherhood in Canada, and a sad reminder of America’s current stance on both of these things.
Good insight on abortion and dark history around what it looks like when there is no choice.

This was such an incredible book. It truly illustrates the struggles that women faced, and continue to face when it comes to the right to an abortion. Honestly this book makes me even more disheartened and angry about Roe v Wade being overturned.
This wasn’t as literary as some of the stuff I’d normally read but still a good, interesting read. Given the writing style I thought it would be a murder mystery but it wasn’t. It’s about having children and not having the choice to not have children. It’s about not being able to have children. It’s about the church and state’s control over women’s bodies and it’s about adoption legislation. I had no idea there was a Jane network where women could seek out safe, but illegal abortions from a group of passionate doctors and assorted volunteers. This is raided frequency by the police. Similarly the church raided the women’s bodies and sold their babies onto richer, married couples who couldn’t conceive. The fictional premise linking the characters was a bit far fetched but still enjoyable.
