The ending... GRRRRRRRRR
Me and classics really don't get along... Specially when they try to shove God down my throat...
And then, Heidi is Peters possession? Really?

Uhhhhhh, no... Just no!
I'm better off with the japanese tv series (Heidi, Girl of the Alps)

It's amazing to me that this book was written well before Shirley Temple was born, because it seems like a part written especially for her — little girl with short, curly hair who is precocious and lovable and gets into trouble through her curiosity and good intentions. I enjoyed the story for what it was, but I found it lacking in bold plot arcs — anything brought up that could have turned into a major plot point was generally resolved shortly thereafter with little fuss. And the resolutions were fairly weak:
the grandfather decides to overcome years of stubbornness and ask for forgiveness (for what, we're never told) and live in the village again, simply because Heidi reads him the story of the prodigal son
, and the mountain air apparently cures any mental or physical difficulty. The book was also too overtly religious for my taste, with Heidi getting (and giving) extensive lectures on how one ought to interact with God and why God does or does not answer prayers. However, for all this, it wasn't a bad book — I liked the characters, and Heidi's positivity and optimism put me in a good mood. I enjoyed the audiobook and would recommend it for making some of the longer descriptive passages come to life.

Beautiful, the descriptions of Heidi's mountains are so poetic - I felt as if I could breath the pure air! A lovely tale!

This was a nice read aloud with all the kids (ages 8 and under). While it is often melodramatic and I didn't care for several parts, it definitely instilled the desire in us to visit the mountains. The kids enjoyed it especially and had good discussions over it.

Not as sad as I was led to believe. Also way more gospel than I thought.
