Attempting to make sure my kiddos know all the classics, we’ve been working through some of these old stories. A great classic, with the characters a bit less scary than I remember from my own childhood. It was a great read. My 9 year old loved it too!
I'm not sure if I ever read this as a kid but thought I'd try it in my never-ending quest to try to read more classics. The first chapter is super exciting but as I got into the 1st and 2nd part of the book I was underwhelmed.
The characters seemed very flat, while some of the characters seemed like weird cartoon characters (Rottenmeier and Peter, I'm lookin' at you!) and the action seemed so unbelievable.
But, as it went on, the characters grew on me. I also liked the sweet faith outlined in the book.
I still don't understand how they live off of a bowl of goat milk and a piece of bread with cheese on it or how it heals a lame girl, but, in the end I was happy with my visit to the beautiful Swiss mountain.
It's not Anne of Green Gables or anything, but worth a read!

I’m glad I finally read this! It’s been on my TBR forever!
I really wish I read this as a kid, I feel like it would’ve been a favorite of mine. Lately I’ve been loving reading children’s classics and have really enjoyed it
