3.2/5 stars, full review to come! This just can’t hold a candle to other middle grade classics, I’m sorry
A childhood favourite that my mum and grandmum used to read to me before bedtime, and it's been really so nice to listen to it as an audiobook again.

Very fond memories attached with this book. I remember I was about eight or nine when I first read this book and I was so enamored with Heidi and her little bed in the attic and the the Swiss mountains.
Definitely going to go pick this up again and see if my fondness remains intact!

When I lived in Oklahoma, my mom took my siblings and I to the library every week. I remember when I discovered Heidi. I was scanning the shelves next to the children's area, looking for something new to read. On the very bottom shelf, near the left-hand corner, there was a thick book with a faded red cover.
Faded red or green covers always held special interest me at our library. They often had no title on them, but when I opened them up, I would almost always find a wonderful old story or collection of stories that had been all but forgotten about. I remember I first read the story of the little match-girl in a certain green-covered collection of stories from the library.
I checked Heidi out and from the very first loved the book. I would check it out ever month or so in order to be able to read it again.
When we moved to Singapore, we were unable to get library cards because they cost too much for expats. So I bought my own copy of Heidi, in order to be able to read it again and again and again for my whole life, no matter where I am.

Purdy. And a rather interesting experiment in turning a novel into a 32-page picture book too.
