Could not get into this; tried for about 1/3 of the book. The "heroine" was kind of boring and annoying and I couldn't get a feel for what the story was about except her whining. Something happened in her past (raped by high school boys after she got drunk) and I guess the story would eventually get to some sort of climax, but I stopped caring and quit reading.

This book was fantastic. I don't want to spoil anything so that's all I'm going to say, but I loved it. Will definitely read it again, along with any other books from this author.

I didn't want to like it at first, but I did.

I bought this book after I asked a book club full of fantastic members what they were reading. It didn't take me long to see why it's a great book club read. There are so many issues to discuss -- rape, date rape, consent, bullying, peer pressure, teacher/student relationships, friendship, and so much more.

The story is told from Ani's point of view and we learn very early on that something awful happened to her when she was 14 years old and going to a small private school near Philadelphia. Now 28 and a successful magazine editor, she's been asked to participate in a documentary about an incident at the school. We're led to believe -- or, at least I was -- it's about the incident involving Ani that we already know about. Turns out that it's not and the incident it is about is simply horrific and that -- not the first incident -- has had more of an effect on Ani's life.

One thing about her adult life is that she's engaged to a guy from -- as her mother would say -- a hoity toity family. But she's questioning whether he really is everything she ever wanted. She comes to what I believe is the perfect decision for the perfect reason.

I highly recommend this book, whether you belong to a book club or not.

I greatly enjoyed this book. The protagonist is one of the most complex I've read in a while. I vacillated between hating how shallow and cruel she could be, to feeling great empathy when the cracks in her veneer showed. In a time when few books can compete with my phone for my attention, I found this book compulsively readable. I only give 5 stars to books that will remain in my collection. For rereads, so I can only give this 4. However, even though it's not one I'm keeping, it's events and characters are ones I'll continue to think about.

I went into this book completely blind. I didn’t see the events that unfolded coming. Some very heavy topics in this book. I did enjoy it and look forward to the Netflix movie!

I feel like every girl has endured their own Dean at some point. Wish it had ended a bit differently.

I can’t completely pinpoint why but this was not as good as I wanted it to be. After reading ‘Bright Young Women’ I was really looking to reading another popular Jessica Knoll read especially since this one was turned into a movie. The book felt very anti-climatic. I knew that bad things had to have happened in Ani’s past but I felt like the telling of that story came out of thin air. I feel as if I still have unanswered questions about Ani. She was an incredibly mysterious character that I couldn’t connect with and her story seems unresolved for me. The premise of the book is incredibly complex and intriguing though so I didn’t dislike it I just felt like I was wanting more. My book club group decided to read this one and watch the movie together to compare so I’m excited to check out the movie because I think this story has very good potential for a screen adaptation.
