It was good… ending felt rushed. 7/10
dark medium-paced
dark mysterious tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Complicated

This was not what I expected at all…. And not necessarily in a good way.

I still love this book and I love Ani's character.

The first half of this book shifts between the teenager who is experiencing terrible things and the adult she turned into who is spiteful, dishonest, and seemingly unhappy even though she is living "the dream". At one point, to be spiteful, she elbows a green pen to write on a co-worker's white pants while they are speaking to her. Anni is very pleased with herself after doing this. I really wanted to like this book but I just can't.

Really liked this one. The plot is really sad and dark but I loved the main character and her voice. I love books about strong women and this did just that. Nothing was glamorized either. The way it was written felt very real.
I wanted to know more about everything that would happen next. Honestly may have been more interested in the characters love life which says a lot about how it was written in the best way.

Not Gone Girl, but still a good read

I read this book because of the comparisons to Gone Girl, so maybe that is why I only have it 4 stars. It was still a pretty interestingly disturbing story, just not with the twist I was expecting. I would suggest this as a good read though, as the main character had a good voice and I didn't know whether to hate her or feel sorry for her until the very end.

No. Just no. When you hate the main character from page 1 and you hope she dies by page 50, it's not a good sign. I tried, I really did. But she is just not likeable. At least, in Gone Girl, you admire her brains while hating the main character. Not so here.

I'm still not sure what to think. The first 3/4 I hated everyone...the last 1/4 seemed to redeem the story somewhat. That said, being from the geographical area she's writing about, I was actually offended by some of her characterizations of the Philadelphia 'Main Line'. I feel very 'meh' after having finished the book.
