No. Just no. When you hate the main character from page 1 and you hope she dies by page 50, it's not a good sign. I tried, I really did. But she is just not likeable. At least, in Gone Girl, you admire her brains while hating the main character. Not so here.
I'm still not sure what to think. The first 3/4 I hated everyone...the last 1/4 seemed to redeem the story somewhat. That said, being from the geographical area she's writing about, I was actually offended by some of her characterizations of the Philadelphia 'Main Line'. I feel very 'meh' after having finished the book.
That turned out a lot differently (and better) than I thought it would.
Good twist. I need to remember to recommend this one for book club.

This book is SO good, it’s just too triggering for me right now to enjoy it. I hope I can come back to it and finish one day.
I disliked all of the characters. I kept waiting for something to happen, some kind of twist. Nope. Wasted 11.5 hours of my life listening to this audio. Ugh. And even though the cover compares it to Gone Girl (which I loved), it is not even close.

"Luckiest Girl Alive" tells Ani Fanelli's story in two timelines.
One, the present, where she copes with her past, does everything to protect herself, striving for a good job and a well-off husband with a well-respected name, and participates in a documentary about what happened in high school.
Two, her time at the above-mentioned high school that this documentary is about.
Early on, one thinks the documentary might be about one thing, but as the story progresses, one learns more and more what else happened during Ani's time at high school, and can draw conclusions how she became the woman she is in the present part of the story, as well as how she got her positive as well as her negative traits.
Most of the characters in this story are not likeable, but that is not the point of the story. I found it very fascinating to find out why and how Ani got to where she is. The story is very real, but also dark at times and one should mind the trigger warnings beforehand.
