Doesn’t have the bite of Veep or Succession, but a funny, warm, vulnerable and very, very British book. Perfect reading for a very British, very rainy Sunday afternoon.

I just finished the new book by Georgia Pritchett, and it might be my favorite book I’ve read this year. Truthfully, it’s one of my favorite reads ever. It’s such a unique memoir, that you forget it’s a memoir at all. I feel like this is the book that people will say, “I always hate memoirs…well, except for the one from Georgia Pritchett.” It is a beautiful work of art, and it’s probably the funniest book I’ve ever read.

Also, I listened to Katherine Parkinson read it, which is perfect. This just equaled me embarrassing myself by bursting out in laughter in the grocery store or while I’m doing the dishes. My family always seems shocked that their husband/father is a loon, but my grocer patrons seem worried about me, more that anything. In the end, the perfect comedy writing is so artful that I just don’t care that everyone tilts their heads at me like a puppy trying to figure out what’s what.

I just finished it, and I’m a bit speechless—I should have given myself a bit more time before reviewing so that I might offer a more eloquent review, but I wanted to give it five stars as quickly as possible. Do yourself a favor and pause the book you’re currently trying to slog through, and read this one. You can always return to that OTHER book later, that is if the greatness of “My Mess is a Bit of a Life” doesn’t leave you unable to return to such a hideous read like that previous wretchedness.
