This was such a cute story. I really couldn't put it down!
Florence Day is a ghostwriter for a romance author, despite not believing in love anymore after a bad breakup. She's falling behind on her manuscript for her next novel, and her new hot editor refuses to give her an extension. One night, Florence gets a call that her father passed away, and returns to her hometown for the funeral.
The night she arrives, she discovers something (or should I say someone) strange. It's her editor, and he's..a ghost?
TW: death of a loved one, car accident
I'd seen heaps of praise for this book, and I thought the premise was very unique and creative, so lgave it a try.
was also worried it would be sad, and it was a bit, since the plot surrounds the death of aparent and having the strength to move on, both for Florence and Benji. But it managed to be thought-provoking and sentimental without being overly depressing.
Like I said, the premise was unique, and unlike anything I've seen before, so I understand why it's so highly rated. It's a perfect mix of the more serious topics of life (or lack thereof, in this case) and romance. Florence and Benj's chemistry was very believable, and it enhanced the whole reading experience.
Florence as a character took some warming up to, personally, but the way Poston wrote her was realistic — if I had to imagine someone going through the events Florence does in this book, they’d probably not be too far off from what we have here.
I’m still shaken by the twist — in a good way, of course! I did wonder what it would’ve been like if Benji was actually dead the whole time instead of in a coma, but I do love a happy ending!

This book was quirky and fun and for someone who is afraid of death, this book eased that tension just a fraction. The way the author described death through the father was eye opening and the romance throughout the journey of healing was just tooth-ache sweet.
The real beauty of this book was the author's note at the end that made me cry. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
