Saffron’s arc from the beginning of the first book where he was accepting of his place and the subsequent mistreatment he received from an oppressive fae society to a Rowan witch ready to kick some butt is always a thrill.

What can I say, I’m an absolute sucker for stories that focus on humanity and struggling against all odds to always find hope.

Gimmie about twenty of these

After finishing the second book, I definitely feel like one of the main things keeping me interested in this series is the worldbuilding and magic system.
Also, what I will say is our mc, Saffron, is very selfless/self-sacrificing and there was a point in the book where something is discovered that'll make you feel like,"Well what was this all for then?" in terms of a certain action the mc commits to (for most of the book mind you).
However, I pushed through and ultimately had fun.

I don’t think I’ll be able to convey my love for this series within one simple review. Alas, I shall try…

Lord of Silver Ashes stole my heart from the very first page. Each chapter is filled with forbidden romance, painful yearning and an “I will destroy anyone who touches you” kind of love. What more could you want?

Cylvan and Saffron are one of my favourite fictional couples EVER. I would die for them, both metaphorically and physically. The way Kellen has entrapped me with their hypnotising writing and imaginative world-building is amazing.

Plus, the world-building is particularly good! I enjoyed uncovering the mysteries of Morrígan Academy (and more, no spoilers) through Saffron’s eyes. The pacing and exposition very well thought out and it shows!

I need a whiskey, my cat and a good night’s sleep to recover from this book (yes it did keep me awake all night). But I can’t wait for Rowan Blood III!

I enjoyed the first book, but I regret to have to report that the second really lost the plot. I just don't think a second book was even necessary; basically nothing happened for the first 80% of the story (aside from Saffron getting beaten, traumatized, and just overall fucked up to the point where he really shouldn't have even survived)(yes, there is such a thing as TOO MUCH hurt/comfort), character decisions didn't make sense, plot didn't make sense... I only finished it because I wanted to see the villains get their asses handed to them.

saffron really going through it like damn dude

the way that this continues a little right after the first book’s end, the angst, the moments of respite, the declarations of love…what an easy five stars for me to give! sometimes when you read more of a series, you can get a bit lost in the world-building, but it was so easy to follow saffron as his information about the world around him grows and grows. and his relationship with cylvan is now one of my favorites because i just love when a relationship isn’t just about the physical, but really about people that choose each other, over and over again!
