this book was SOOOOOOOOO good!!!! kanan and hera are two of my favorite star wars characters, and i loved getting to explore who they were before the events of rebels. hera is such a kind hearted badass, and i adore how determined she is to help everyone that she can. that her love and kindness rubs off on kanan and inspires him to recall his long stifled jedi ideals…. it was absolute perfection.

also the way kanan is just so blatantly in love with hera…. i love a wife guy, i really do.

moving beyond those two, i loved the side characters too!!! the rag tag group they form is so sweet, and i love how it shows that hope (the driving force of all star wars stories) affects not only the jedi, but also civilians like zaluna and skelly.

the plot was fast paced, exciting, and interesting. the only reason i didn’t give it five stars was because i did get a little confused sometimes by some of the names for things, or the more specific workings of what the empire was trying to do. but such is the nature of star wars!!!! the character dynamics and the underlying thread of hope that’s so important to star wars more than made up for any confusion on my part, and made it an absolutely delightful read. i will absolutely be reading again!!!

Okay, so I liked this book not love. Obviously I think it would be best to go into this book with some knowledge about Rebels. It was okay and I really have nothing else to say.

I did enjoy the book but there was surprisingly little interaction between the two cover characters. This would be a great book to have a sequel.

My love for Kanan Jarrus has increased exponentially after reading this wonderful book. I can't believe it took me this long to pick it up and read it! I wish the story had gone on a little longer and that Kanan had displayed more of his Force sensitivities, but it was still an amazing novel. Now I just need the story of how Sabine and Zeb ended up joining the Ghost crew.

I enjoyed learning about Kanan’s past and how he met Hera. But I kept wanting him to use his Jedi skills. The action parts were great and got my heart pumping. But I wanted more Jedi action. The writing was simple... I miss the writing like Thrawn.
