This book was fun, fast paced and filled with monsters and a touch of romance.

Also, Winnie wearing glasses just makes it that much better and realistic.

Winnie is a hunter outcast who wants nothing more than to help her family get back into the Luminaries good graces. Partaking in a series of trials she tries to do her family proud. But with new monsters on the loose that only she can see it makes it all that much harder.
Also, there's this boy helping her that she just can't put her finger on.

All I can say is I was left with more questions than answers we were given so thankfully the next book was there ready for me straight away. (Otherwise, I may have gone mad as the ending is a bit abrupt.)

This book was fun with amazing world and monster biology building!

When I was growing up I was dying to read books about girls who were just like me. They would have glasses, be unbelievably shy, and absolutely a people pleaser. That is 100% Winnie Wednesday from this book. And because of who she is as a character, I loved her immediately.

Winnie is absolutely determined to free her family from the exile put on them by the other Luminary families. In order to do that? She must take the hunters trials. But she has only one shot to do it: on the month she turns 16. And if she fails? That was her only shot. Period.

The stakes are already high because Winnie has had no training in four years. But she has to help her family. She has to save herself. But in the meantime hunters are showing up dead. And there’s a new threat roaming the woods. A threat no one has seen except Winnie and a handful of other people. Add in her ex-best friend Jay and you have a super cute story about a glasses wearing awkward people pleaser who I wanted to protect at all costs.

I cannot tell you enough times how much I loved Winnie. She was exactly the type of character I would have loved at 16 and the type of character I can’t help but love now. I ordered the next book. I can’t wait to read it.

I really liked the pacing, the setting, the monsters. What brought it from 4 stars to three, the teeth clicking, the everything clicking, why all the weird noises ? Why so many repetitive ? On audio it was super annoying.
