Comics just aren't my thing. This was fine but I need more words and I just don't look at the illustrations enough.

I thought it was an interesting take on her point of view. I enjoyed it and cant wait for #2 to come out :)

A fairly bland story, with some heavy-handed manipulation of Shuri, and too much exposition (and recaps of earlier events in the book). I didn't particularly care for the art, either.

I won't lie, the gorgeous cover art drew me in. (But really, this is a comic--I expect little judgement there.) And of course, I was looking forward to a chance to have an adventure with my favorite warrior princess.

The good? Lots for cameo appearances from beloved characters like Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Storm and Iron Man. (And I must say, Okorafor did a splendid job of capturing each of their characterizations.)

On the downside... this really only felt like half of a story, with a bit of cliffhanging that didn't entice me to read onward. Yes, T'chala is missing... but we have no idea why. And all the attempts at figuring this out seemed to only lead to side quests and lots of politics.

Meanwhile, Shuri keeps putting off literally EVERYONE who wants her to temporarily take up the Black Panther mantel. For unexplained reasons. (Yes, she is hesitant to let it seem like she's giving up on her brother. But surely the greater good should overrule here.)

The pacing felt really bogged down for the last half of this installment, tempting me to skim at times just to find plot progression. And we never get any feel for Shuri's evident relationship with Manifold--which didn't bode well for the emotional connectivity.

Traditional comics aren't my preference, but I liked this more than most. My biggest complaint about comics is that so much happens outside of a single issue, even if it's supposed to be a new series. There are characters and story lines I don't fully understand.

But I love Shuri and enjoyed this story with her.

Shuri was one of my standout favorites from the Black Panther film, so the fact that she gets her own comic series meant this was a no-brainer for me. I loved seeing her holding her own alongside Ramonda, Okoye, Storm, and Iron Man after her brother disappeared into space. The story was excellent and the various covers were all stunning. Looking forward to the next collection!

Excellent read, can’t wait to pick up volume 2. I loved the story, I really liked the focus on science. I enjoyed the old school art mixed with a very modern progressive story.

I enjoyed reading this comic especially since it’s about Shuri!! This comic of course takes place in Wakanda and Ch’alla must go to space because there is something going on and there is this mysterious black hole. So as he makes this trip to space he soon disappears and no one knows where he is. So of course they asked Shuri to become the black panther until he returns but instead of accepting the responsibility of being the black panther Shuri decides that she rather go look for him. Now since Ch’alla is missing Storm from X men joins Shuri to find him because she is his girlfriend. Though soon chaos takes place in Timbuktu and Shuri has no choice but to become the black panther. So in the comic we also have Groot, Rocket, and Iron Man in this comic and it was so good. I just wished it would’ve had a little bit more of story line, but other than that it was really good.
