I really liked this book! It was so fun and mysterious. It really felt like I was with Olivia and finding out all of the secrets of Gallant. It was a bit confusing at some times, but at the end it started to make more sense!

Honestly I'm surprised this book isn't rated better? I thoroughly enjoyed it, the mystery and the writing style.
One thing that bothered me a little: In the audio version it was hard to tell, especially in the beginning, when the narrator was in the present vs. the journal. So that was a bit confusing.

I restarted this thing 3 times. I have yet to get very far with her books. I really want to like her but cannot get into any of them. I have tried many books over the years. I am throwing in the towel. She's not my jam, and that is ok.

This is one of those books that I feel really bad for not loving. I can tell it’s a work of art. I’m just not the right audience.
This book is for those who appreciate beautiful writing, even when it takes first place, and moving the story forward takes second place.
This is for readers who love gorgeous exposition and haunting prose. For whom dialogue doesn’t really matter.
I just wanted to get through it, honestly, because it’s not my type of book. But I think that other readers will adore it.

I liked this book, but it just didn’t quite make it to a 4-star read for me. Gallant had a unique and eerie tone that kept me intrigued, even if the pacing felt a bit slow at times. The novel moved along swiftly enough to hold my attention, and I appreciated the quiet suspense that lingered throughout the story. That subtle tension is really what made the book so captivating.
The plot itself was pretty straightforward, but it’s clear that V.E. Schwab put a lot of thought and care into developing the world. The atmosphere was rich and haunting, and I could definitely feel the time and effort poured into the setting and tone.
Even though I didn’t fall completely in love with it, I still enjoyed the experience. If you’re looking for a quiet, gothic tale with a whisper of darkness and mystery, Gallant might be worth a read.
