Had a slow start, but worth it. Very emotional and heartfelt for something that is generally paranormal horror.

This book was great, but I felt the ending was a bit plain.

I could not put this book DOWN!! I just had to know where her mom was, why Matthew didn’t want her there, why she was different from the other girls at the school.. all of it.
I honestly loved that she was mute as it added a sense of how she was different from others without being something totally bad. And I loved loved that she knew sign and so did Edgar. As for her and Matthew I liked that he couldn’t read and they had to talk through pictures or gestures.
The whole plot around this book was fantastic and I loved it a lot. I can’t even begin to explain it. The sorta found family as she lost her parents was so good.
On that note THE JOURNAL!!! Are you kidding me!!! Had me sobbing that that was all she had of her mom but it was actually both her parents.

very Coraline-esque - while I enjoyed the creativity, it frustrated me that because it’s YA it was relatively straightforward, yet Matthew is still killed off!! I didn’t find that part necessary also it’s never resolved, which I suppose is a message about not being able to defeat death, yet I missed a more satisfying ending.
