very Coraline-esque - while I enjoyed the creativity, it frustrated me that because it’s YA it was relatively straightforward, yet Matthew is still killed off!! I didn’t find that part necessary also it’s never resolved, which I suppose is a message about not being able to defeat death, yet I missed a more satisfying ending.

I read this one as an ARC and I loved it. I'd never read Schwab before but I can tell the author has a very distinct voice. A fantastic example of "Show, don't tell." I wish I could've explored this world more.
